The office said my thyroid test results showed some abnormality and recommended an ultrasound on my thyroid.
Is this normal procedure or should I be concerned?

- It's normal to be concerned but just don't go beyond concerned enough to search and learn a bit about the test, just as a student of sorts.
I've been through enough worry to just try to wave a magic wand anytime I hear rumbling of worry.
It's like checking the oil in your car. Your doctor likely just wants to rule out something.
If there is something, then just deal with it. You will have more detail then and the skill to manage that in a creative way. In the meantime, best to assume this is just to rule out.
It's too cheeky to say "don't worry, be happy" but just try not to cross any bridges of woe until (or unless) required.
It's good that your doctor has ordered this, though. Always nice to see under the hood if there is a little blip on the screen. -

My doctor thought she felt a nodule on my thyroid. An ultra sound was ordered, confirmed small nodule...not unusual. I'm fine.

same here EWT1638, I had a goiter and the doctor wanted to look at the gland. Yes, it was a goiter and nothing serious.

Same here. I have goiter and small nodules, they told me nothing to worry about.

Have an ultrasound on my thyroid every 7-9 months. I have five nodules that they just watch to see if they're growing, and I 've been doing this for five years now.
Doc said anyone over 50 (not meaning to presume anything about your age here) probably has at least one of these.
Keebler's advice about trying to take a deep breath and waiting to see is probably the best. Docs have to follow protocols to rule out the worst and go in a descending order, kind of a triage.
The ultrasound is quick and doesn't hurt. It is good to jjst get perspective as you did so you realize it is, anymore, fairly routine.

I have a small nodule on my thyroid gland and I have had an ultra sound of it every year. My endo does not think it's a problem but he said that he will monitor it for 10 years and if after that there isn't any change in it. he will stop prescribing an annual ultra sound.

It is not unusual, it is to check for nodules etc. I have had it done before. Don't worry!
