Any experiences?

I take 2 drops at night with Klonopin and Melatonin. It's similar to Elavil and Trazadone. It also has some anti-histamine properties.

I don't think I'm on a high enough dose though.

I sure hope it's not real drying. But so is trazodone. It will probably be the same.

Thanks for the info!

and thanks to those who PM'd me! [Smile]

My only experience is with the cream, prescribed for deep nerve-related itching. It did not help much.

My son was up to 30 mg but we are weaning him off due to the morning hangover. He can't get up for school. It did help with his appetite a bit.

There is a new med out called Silenor that is actually just low dose Doxipen. The smallest dose of Doxipen is 10 mg. Silenor starts at 3 mg. It is very expensive.

My son does well on just the 3 mg for sleep. He was supposed to ramp up to 30 mg, but he found when he increased to 6 mg that it gave him too much of a next day sleep hangover. So he has stayed at 3 mg.

He reports that since he started using the Silenor, that his sleep is more refreshing. And he dreams again. Sometimes in color. Which is rare for him. It is one of those meds that helps you get more stage 3 & 4 sleep, which is what we can lack.

So my suggestion would be to try to start on a low dose. A less expensive way to do that is to have it prescribe as Doxipen 10mg but have it in a pediatric suspension. Then you can alter the dose. I know someone who did this and it only cost $10. Although I am not sure what insurance was involved.

Best,
Karen
