Did anyone else develop gastritis or other GI pain on this med? It's got my Babesia on the run but my stomach can't handle it!

So bummed.

Playing phone tag with Hopkinton Drug about Liposomal Artemisinin. Guess I'll try that next.

That is a side effect on Alinia. http://www.rxlist.com/alinia-drug/side-effects-interactions.htm

Have you tried taking it with food? Sometimes using an over the counter med like Zantac can help.

Boxer,

How long have you been taking Alinia and why was it recommended?

It's next on my list to try when I see my LLMD next week. I need something new to knock down this last babs flare.

I couldn't take it!! I took it for a week, and I lost 10 pounds in 7 days because it messed my stomach up so much. Not worth it in my opinion.

kgg - yeah, I read all the side effects and patient reports and studies. And I always take meds with tons of food. I've been taking an OTC acid blocker to help with the gastritis.

Gary - I was fine for two weeks then the gastritis hit. I also started Wellbutrin at close to the same time, which has some reports of gastritis. So it could be either med, or the combo. I chose Alinia because I'm noticing Atovaquone-resistance. It worked immediately on my Babs and I was making great progress on it.

L&L - Bummer. Most people seem to tolerate this med just fine, so it's good to know I'm not the only one. I hope your stomach recovered.

It was better as soon as I got off. No lasting issues at all!

If I don't eat enough food, it kills my stomach. So I take it with starches (gluten free grains/bread,) along with the rest of my meal.

That could be my problem, Catgirl.

I don't eat grains or starches. Meat, veggies, small amts of fruit. I do take it with a full meal though.

I eat yogurt and find that coats my stomach for the more challenging meds. I'll eat more yogurt next time I try Alinia.

Have you been on other parasite meds before this?

IMO I think this is a great med, but has to be taken at the right time (considering your germ load).......

I was given this med a year and a half ago. Within a day and a half, I was vomiting uncontrollably (this lasted 36 hours), plus diarrhea. I ended up in the ER. My bilirubin went through the roof. My electrolytes went completely out of whack. I then lost about 15lbs (which I couldn't afford to lose). It totally rocked my system.

After a few months to let things settle, I restarted parasite treatment again beginning with Biltricide (4 days), then Ivermectin w/Pyrantel at night (2 weeks), then Albenza (2 weeks). I was suppose to do Alinia next but I was scared. So we repeated the other meds, then I finally did the Alinia and had none of the issues I had previously (I did have other issues because I am sensitive to sulfur and Alinia has sulfur. So I wasn't able to stay on it for the full 2 weeks, but I did very well with it. Felt very good afterwards.)

I think my germ load was way too heavy and Alinia was too strong for me to take early on. That's why I said above, I think it's a great med, but must be taken at the right time imo. Maybe you need to be on some of the other meds I mentioned first, to bring down your load, then retry the Alinia.

Just some thoughts.... Hope this helps.

got terrible stomach pains and toilet visits. it's apprently a side effect of the meds.

It is important to get colonics when on any of these meds. If the liver gets overloaded with the dead proteins, it is sheer misery and you can get "sick as a dog".

The timing is very important and it really needs energetic testing to know when the body can deal with it and when not. I took it for a number of weeks and was never bothered by it. So, yes, the timing is very important. Alinia crosses the blood brain barrier and is therefore affecting very different areas than Ivermectin.

Thanks everyone! I'm taking a break from it and my stomach calmed right down.

I'll wait a bit before trying again.
