Has anyone had MRSA added to the list of diagnoses?
My LLND suspects MRSA as why I still have lingering
fatigue...and I'll know result of the nasal swab in
a week. Has anyone else had MRSA as a non-skin
infection? If so, what were your symptoms and what
was treatment?!

Based on my research allicin from garlic is most powerful against mrsa although I don't have mrsa.

Yes, I had a MRSA sinus infection. I was sick as a dog for about 6 months before it showed up on a culture. This started in Dec. of 2011 and was finally diagnosed May 2012.
Symptom was a headache 24/7, and it was the headache from hell. I had it for at least 6 months with no relief as doctors tried various oral antibiotics, etc. I had CT scans, etc. but it never showed up on them either. I had to take narcotic pain killers at least a few times per week to augment my pain coping skills which are pretty good.
When It finally showed on a culture, I was given liquid levaquin and some other med to use in a nebulizer. Evidently, you must use at least 2 meds to kill this thing.
The culture report will list all of the meds that your particular MRSA is susceptible to. (Each MRSA infection is different. Mine was a "young" infection and was susceptible to a few different antibiotics. A more mature MRSA may only be susceptible to one.) Then, the ENT will order these meds from a company in Calif. They arrive in the mail along with the machine to administer them.
Besides the headache, I was exhausted. I also lost my sense of smell.
It takes a few months to get rid of MRSA in the sinuses. You have to follow instructions about breathing in the meds through your nose, and you have to be patient.
I got other infections in the sinuses once I was rid of the MRSA. It was a real nightmare. I had 3 normally-hospital acquired infections in the sinuses all at the same time. MRSA was just the worst of the 3. Then, I got other infections after these 3. The ordeal went on for at least 4 months and ended with me getting C diff from an impatient ENT who finally blasted me with oral Augmentin.
My advice is to get a top-notch ENT if this is what you have. My second ENT had me squirt the meds into the nose with a squirt bottle. So, there are various techniques. It all depends on whether or not you have ever had sinus surgery which method of administering the meds is best for you.
If it is MRSA, you may get a little relief from normal antibiotics, but they will not solve your problem. I hope you don't have MRSA in the sinus, but if you do, let me know and we can talk further.

Enula from Nutramedix may be useful for MRSA. A couple of years ago, before they restricted US access to a foreign Nutramedix website, the write up on Enula said that testing demonstrated it was very effective for MRSA.

You should look at difference between colonization and infection.
I recently had an infected tooth extracted. The oral surgeon thinks that I have had a chronic sinus infection in the sinus above this tooth, which showed some 'mild inflammation' in a cat scan of my mastoid bones that had been taken last fall. There was also a small 'bubble' on the cat scan that he believes were the roots of the infected tooth penetrating into my sinus cavity.
I feel lousy and have been taking augmentin for the past month. It is now almost 3 weeks since I had the surgery. My symptoms include buzzing, tingling sensations in my face and skull, head pressure and some killer head aches that come and go, and the feeling of fluid moving around my skull. My sense of smell has been decreasing for years.
I was tested for Marcons around 6 months ago. Wondering if I would have been tested for MRSA at that time? The recent culture of the extracted tooth and necrotic bone did not show MRSA or any unexpected or abnormal bacteria or fungus. Just wondering how to go about knowing the best antibiotic(s) to use when treating a chronic sinus infection.
The oral surgeon thinks Augmentin should be enough. I will have been on it for 6 weeks by the time I see him for follow up next week. I have been instructed not to blow my nose since the surgery, and am taking the augmentin orally. Wondering if I should ask the doctor about using nasal entry for ABX...
Also, I asked oral surgeon to forward information to my ENT. Do you think he should be involved now that I am told I may have a chronic sinus infection? I keep thinking it is lyme or some other tick born illness that has settled into my sinuses and head. I hope the ABX will work for this!
