Hello everyone..

So I been treating yeast/ fungus for a month now with diflucan.

I am on the diet.. All what I eat is vegetables and meats.

I havent gotten any improvements. The white tongue did not change at all. I thought it will decrease the white tongue. I am on 300 mg a day.

So I am not sure why is it not helping at all. For how long should I be treating this and should i start lyme disease treatment with it?

You might want to check out this site. There is alot of info.
You may need to back off the antifungal for awhile.

I am sorry Ellen,

But I hate websites that promote a book or something for you to buy. The diet is clear, no carbs no sugar. I don't need a book to figure that out.

But thank you for the help.

Levema, are you on 300 billion cultures of probiotics a day? If so, you can slowly up it to 400, even 450. Keep trying until you find what works for you (we are all different). You can try adding some s.boulardii too. I also use compounded nystatin. It works much better than the pill form (fillers).

You need to balance your gut. It needs much more beneficial bacteria than you're currently giving it. Do you eat yogurt or kefir or fermented veggies? If not, start. They help and are worth it.

You can also use herbs to kill the candida, and keep it at bay. If you do a search here on yeast, you will find lots of information right at your fingertips. Also, you might want to keep a journal of everything you are eating and putting on your body (shampoo, toothpaste, etc). You're either feeding the yeast, or you're not supplying enough good yeast/bacteria to kill the bad stuff (or both).

I ate a strict anti candida diet (Burrascano's) and still suffered with what I thought was yeast. The majority of my yeast turned out to be due to parasites and heavy metals. These three things are intertwined. Once I got serious about heavy metals, the yeast started leaving. No kidding, the difference is night and day to where I was before. I take way less probiotics and nystatin than I used to. And I no longer need diflucan.

I had yeast long before I started abx--I just didn't recognize it. Of course it was 10x worse on abx though. Metals and parasites are key.

How do you treat heavy metals??

And 300 billion! I was taking 80 billion and thought that was too much, anyway I cannot increase it that much. Probiotics can get very expensive and i am struggling financially.

Thank you for the response!

Some people are able to get insurance coverage for VSL#3 double strength.

I usually feel the exact same way but her approach is different and makes slot of sense.
Before even beginning the diet she recommends being on a detox supplement for a period of time. No antifungals or probiotics during this intro period. Those are introduced later one at a time as you move through the different phases. One of the biggest reasons people don't get rid of candida is because they do too much at once.

Digestive enzymes are a must.

Wait a minute... 80 billion of probiotics, right?? You could easily double that.

How many mg of Diflucan? You may need to do something specific to address the oral thrush. There are different treatments you can do, or you can get Nystatin powder to swish and swallow.

Also consider making your own fermented vegetables.

300 mg of diflucan a day...

So this is not going to help with oral thrush?
My doctor is going to switch me on a different antifungal soon

Wow.. that's a high dosage. She needs to address the thrush directly with SOMETHING.

Maybe rinsing with very diluted oregano oil (just a drop or 2) in water a couple times a day will help with the oral thrush.

Does oil pulling help?

I been rinsing with coconut oil, but I don't think it done anything

Fermented veggies are strong. They kill yeast, too. Get it from every angle you can. Take the "brine" from the fermented vegetables and swish it in your mouth. Don't buy store bought. Make your own and let them ferment at least 5 days. You will have die off symptoms. I am using this food as medicine and it's getting to areas the Diflucan isn't. I'm on 1/2 that dose of Diflucan - but the fermented veggies should help, indeed.

An excellent 'gut' doc of my daughter's, who dealt with yeast all day long, once said:

There are let's say, 7 strains of different types of nasty canidia/ yeast.

Diflucan may only hit 2 of them (maybe not the 2 you have)
Ketoconazole may hit number 3-4
Itraconazole may hit 5-7

So, if Diflucan doesn't seem to be eradicating it, perhaps a switch to ketoconazole may be in order.

Of course, this is all assuming you have a confirmed, systemic yeast overgrowth.

Obviously, replace gut flora with high quality and count probiotics.

I didn't know that you could truly confirm it. What's the best way?

OAT test by Great Plains Labratory, or

Metamatrix stool tests are the ones we used to go by-

Just to be sure you have covered all bases, you can't just take the diflucan pill. You also must cleanse the mouth a few times per day, every day until the white tongue is gone.

See p. 34 of Burrascano for how to scrub out the thrush in your mouth. You can use peroxide (50/50 with water) or the Listerine, etc.

After the scrubbing, then you rinse mouth and open a probiotic capsule and sprinkle it on the tongue. You let it dissolve for as long as possible. So, if you can leave it there for 30 minutes, that is great. You will repopulate your mouth with the good flora this way.

Killing it in the mouth is key, and the diflucan pill doesn't kill it in the mouth, so you have to kill it there.

TF, I have been made to understand that when candida and other discharge comes out of the tongue, it's a result of what's going on in the gut.

The analogy I was given is: if you clean all the oil and gunk off of your car's engine, it doesn't fix the bad gasket that's causing the oil leak that eventually gunks up the engine.

I scrape my tongue every day and rinse with MMS or peroxide. That by itself never seemed to do anything to abate the coated tongue in the A.M.

The only times when I find reduced coating on the tongue in the morning is when I'm treating the candida systemically.

What treats candida systemic that you can buy otc??

Posted by TF (Member # 14183) on :

Well, it all depends on who you want to believe. Burrascano says it begins in the mouth:

"MANAGING YEAST OVERGROWTH
Many patients with weakened defenses, such as from chronic illnesses, including Lyme Disease, develop an overgrowth of yeast. This begins in the mouth and then spreads to the intestinal tract. Therefore the primary line of defense is careful oral hygiene...

To clear intestinal yeast, first the tongue and mouth must be cleansed so yeast does not reenter the system with every swallow." (page 34)

Many new mothers notice that their newborn develops thrush (oral yeast) in their mouths, and this needs to be treated. So, it starts in the mouth as I understand it.

Besides cleansing the mouth, you have to restore the mouth flora as described above.

It's both ways! Either way, it must be addressed. Just taking Diflucan is not going to make the thrush disappear on its own. It will take some work or perhaps mycelex lozenges. (try Dr B's method first)

DIET is huge. If you don't clean up your gut, the thrush will just come back and so will the rest of the yeast.

Thanks everyone.

How do you guys deal with sugar cravings on candida diet?

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Once you go cold turkey for a few weeks (even one week will help) your cravings will go way down. If you drink any type of tea you could sweeten it with stevia and have that when you get the sweet tooth.

I'm not able to tolerate stevia while on this diet, but most can.

You can also have green apples (Granny Smith only).. so you could have that with some almond butter. (NO peanut butter!)
