I have been feeling rotten lately, and was wondering what any of you use to feel better when you're herxing or just having symptoms?

Also, this week I'll be going on a "cocktail" of antibiotics (Coartem, Doxy and Clindamycin) ,Plaquenil and Artemesim. My stomach is always hurting so much to begin with, what do you use to buffer the effects of so much medication on your digestive system?

I'm a newbie, and just starting meds for LD and Babs from a tick bite 11 years ago.

You all are a true blessing! I don't know how I could have possibly gotten diagnosed without your help!!!

For sure, you need to be taking tons of probiotics.. and not the cheap stuff. I would take as much as you can afford, and then add to it! [Wink]

No less than 100 billion CFU's per day. You probably could use 200 billion.

A bath of epsom (4cups) and peroxide (1-2 quartz) can help. A 1/2 tsp of baking soda in water or an alka seltzer gold (it needs to be the gold kind not regular) can give me a little boost when I am feeling bad.

I hope you get a lot more responses. I too need more detox and support suggestions to get through feeling so bad.

Glutathione.

Lymetoo: I have 40 billion caps of probiotics from Whole Foods-refrigerated type; I thought that was a lot! I'll locate 200's asap.

lax mom et al: What are the specifications on Glutathione? I see all kinds available, and am confused about dosages, quality etc.

I took an Alkaseltzer Gold in Lime water and my headache went away! I'm amazed!

Keebler: I had to use Tamoxifen for (only one year TG!) after breast cancer, and quit after that because I couldn't tolerate it. If I understand how it worked, it tries to shut your adrenal glands down. Is that part of my problem?

I have tried it all, and nothing works like Cholestrymine or Welchol. They are both prescriptions.

They mobilize toxins so you must be very careful, start slow and ramp up slowly. They work great.

To put it in perspective, I was taking 2 doses of 10 caps of activated charcoal a day, and that isn't even equal to 1/2 a dose of Cholestrymine. On that dose I got a pretty intense inflammation response.

Once you get over the hump with it there is nothing better.

RC1: Lowering your cholesterol will help with Lyme? Interesting that my LDL and HDL are high despite the fact that I am thin, have eaten no red meat in 20 years, and used to exercise several times a week.

I had given up on that issue, and figured that I was a victim of my ancestry. I'll have to talk to my LLMD about this!

Funny how past health issues all make sense when you finally realize you have LD and Co!

Cholestrymine and Welchol are used off label. They bind to the Lyme toxins that circulate through bile. They will probably lower your Cholesterol too.

Herxheimer reaction (from 2010 Lyme Conference, Dr. H):

Take-home message: DETOXIFY YOUR LYME PATIENTS!

It does NOT matter what antibiotic you give people, they will NOT get better without detoxification

For Herxheimer reactions: 2 Alka-Selzer Gold (no aluminum) in 8 ounces of water with lemon or lime followed by 6-8 capsules of glutathione or 1500 mg of oral liposomal glutathione.

70% will feel better in hours

On the topic of water: Dilution is the solution to pollution. This suggests that in order to help our bodies detoxify, we must drink more water

Dr. H. updated his recipe, but I don't have the update. It was posted here once. Maybe the poster will see this and post again.

Things for detox/organ support I've done myself or have seen others do:

Digestive enzymes, taken between or with meals, can help clear some of the toxins dumped into the gut...

DGL, Slippery Elm Bark, Marshmallow Root - help support & protect the lining of the mucus membranes in the gut...

Systemic enzymes help clean up the blood and decrease hypercoagulation...

Dry skin brushing...

Binders (choose one or two of the following: charcoal, bentonite, diatomaceous earth, chlorella, modified citrus pectin, apple pectin, high fiber foods, etc.).

Drinking plenty of fluids.

Coffee enemas.

Gallbladder or liver flushes.

Herbal/homeopathic organ support (adrenals, kidneys, liver, gut)...

Blood cleansing herbs...Nettles, Red Clover, etc.

Probiotics...bacterial types (acidophilus, etc.) and yeast type (S. Boulardii)...

Gentle (non-aerobic) exercise...

Plenty of rest and sleep...

Sauna...

Avoid Gluten, Dairy, Sugar...

Avoid toxic food & food additives (GMO's (eat organic as much as possible), artificial sweeteners, MSG, artificial colors/flavors, etc.).

Vitamin B12 supplements or injections...methylcobolamin or hydroxycobolamin are best forms of B12.

Methylation support - (Cysteine, methionine, taurine, methyl-folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate), Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, antioxidants, etc.).

Magnesium!!!

Anti-inflammatory herbs/supplements - Omega 3 EFA's, Vit. C, Vit. D, Ginger, Circumen/Tumeric, systemic enzymes, etc.

Meditation. Specifically, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). Jon Kabat- Zinn recordings.
In a pinch, the free updated app Calm.com is helpful too, and easy.
Habit of operating in fight/flight all the time keeps my body from processing stuff. These help a lot.

FIR sauna. It's good for detox and spirochetes hate the heat.
