Okay I have a huge jar or cholestramine that I bought four years ago that I used only few times. I found the jar today, and it has a lot in it.

I am tight on money to buy another one, and I was just wondering, would still be okay to use? It expired probably three or four years ago....

As you post that it is expired, do not use past the exp. date. It could be very dangerous to do so - at least until you call the prescribing pharmacy and discuss this with them.

Also take into account the number of hot days this has gone through that could affect the chemical stablility. Other factors are involved, though, such as if any mold could grow in it, etc.

There are many other ways to achieve the same thing without this. Many other ways for less cost and a more gentle reaction, too, that does not strip the body of necessary nutrients.

As you have posted multiple times about serious symptoms that are likely connected to magnesium deficiency, this is not necessarily the best thing for you to be taking, anyway. Cholestyramine robs the body of magnesium.

Basic liver support, LOTS of fiber in veggies, Carob root powder, Sarsaparilla (Smilax), Stinging Nettle, Rhubarb (in a formula).

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

See the LL ND thread here to find many links to take it from there.

AN INTRODUCTION TO CHINESE HERBS

-by Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D.

Excerpt:

(section on) RHUBARB (dahuang)

This large root was one of the first herbs that the Western world imported from China.

It serves as a very reliable laxative, and also has other benefits: enhancing appetite when taken before meals in small amounts, promoting blood circulation and relieving pain in cases of injury or inflammation, and inhibiting intestinal infections.

Rhubarb also reduces autoimmune reactions. . . .

The pharmacy that many use for cholostyramine (without additives) is Hopkinson Drugs, in the Boston area:

If you throw away this "huge jar", do NOT put down the sink or toilet. It could cause major trouble / blockage with plumbing pipes.

Do NOT put in the trash if any animal could get to it there or at any point along the way to a landfill. I doubt they'd be attracted to it but it's important not to chance it as it could be distructive to their guts, like glue.

We also need to be sure that no children would get into it.

Ask the pharmacy the best way to dispose of this.
