What's the latest on magnesium? A few years back everyone was raving about using it for Lyme, then I started to hear people say that doctors were thinking it actually helps build biofilm and aids in bacteria survival. Thoughts?

Your body needs it. Doesn't make sense to me to deprive the bugs and suffer the consequences of low Mg yourself.

Without Mg, my life would be unbearable from muscle cramps.

All pathogens that cannot live free are parasites to some extent, living off the host's nutrients.

poppy yes but what about things like sugar.... too much is bad but without any, we die from low blood sugar. So maybe best to just get a little mag in diet instead of taking massive doses? Just thinking out loud.

Magnesium is vital for many bodily functions. I believe that you need to restore what the bugs use up. If you are taking too much, you will just pay more bathroom visits!

Magnesium has been found in biofilm - among other things and ONE doctor speculates that maybe magnesium "feeds" biofilm and that supplementing may not be the best move.

Just one doctor who is a researcher, not a clinical physician. So he may not see the help that those who are deficient experience with supplementation.

Do read his work, also that of others on the topic, though. Ask your LLMD. Don't just take my simplifiied take on it. This is what I've come to think about it. Always read original works as some key may be missed.

Now, I will say that this doctor is a brilliant researcher, very hard working and by all accounts, an absolute prince of a man, fiercely dedicated to help all with tick-borne and stealth infections. And that bit of detail is nice. We WANT him to continue researching and sharing - however - we still can't starve our body of essential nutrients.

We can be very careful about the quality, the source and the balance, however - and work with our LL doctors to find the right amount for each of us.

My guess is that only a certain balance of magnesium (to other things) is in biolfilm so as we feed our bodies, whatever we take in, all of that certainly could not go to biofilm formation - our body will be getting some.

For years, it's been thought that spirochetes take up magnesium, too, but that we simply then had to supplement to make up for what they stole.

IMO, there is no infection that we can starve out of our bodies (regarding an essential nutrient) without starving our own cells. Other ways must then be considerered.

There are other ways to address biofilm [grapefruit seed extract is one of those]. Starving ourselves is not one of them.

Yes, magnesium seems to be in bio-film, along with other things. Still, WE need it. Our CELLS REQUIRE it. Absolutely.

If we are deficient, we can suffer and damage can be caused to many organs and body systems. Being low in magnesium is a miserable experience. Just miserable.

Detail here that can save your life, really, especially if in an emergency:

1 Q: "what about things like sugar.... too much is bad but without any, we die from low blood sugar" (end quote)

REFINED sugar is crap that no body needs. We can live without any refined sugar.

COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES supply all the glucose a body needs. Those are the sugars we need to include in our diet. And, yes, we do require carbs. IMO, a low carb diet is a very, very bad idea. But the definition has gone all wacko. Carbs have gotten a bad name when, in fact, we require them to live. But, as nature intended.

2 Q: "So maybe best to just get a little mag in diet instead of taking massive doses?" (end quote)

No. Not if the amount we need is more that "just a little" Yes, if all our particular body needs is a little.

Supplementing just a little - if we are deficient - is still going to result in cell starvation, cell death and misery along the way.

"massive doses" are never a good idea, though. No one here is suggesting massive doses but a person may require between 1,000 - 2,000 mg a day - always in divided doses (3-4 x day), never all at once. All at once can damage kidneys. Divided doses can help kidneys & liver.

Get an INTRACELLULAR TEST, not a serum test. Find out where you stand.

SYSTEMIC ENZYMES & GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT are just two helpers to address biofilm.

Systemic enzymes include (but are not limited to): serrapetase; Lumbrokinase; or Wobenzyne, etc.

Any good LLMD should know all this and be able to help you select the plan for your body.

I had to find which magnesium I could take - there's a couple kinds out there. I am finally "passing" magnesium glycinate tablets.

Also, be careful - grapefruit seed extract caused my throat to close. So whenever you try anything, try a very small amount of it to make sure you can handle it.

If you have protomyxzoa, and 80% of us are testing positive for it, then you don't want to take magnesium because it helps build up the biofilm. The very thing you are trying to stop, like cramping or twitching or anxiety will be worsened by it.

One of the ways to reduce biofilm is to take EDTA which binds with magnesium and iron, that is part of the construction of the biofilm.
Dr. F says not to supplement these -or folate. And avoid arginine.

I don't think you want to feed this organism because once it takes over, you are stuck with it for life and it is a killer. I would avoid excessive fat also - If I had to start treatment all over again I would do the low fat diet right from the start.

Neffer even if proto does use mag to build biofilm, we would die without mag in blood, so should'n't we feed our bodies?

Similar to oxygen -- babesia uses oxygen to survive so let's all hold our breathes forever......

i cant go without it. my muscles would all be severely spasms

I fall down in the camp of giving your body what it needs. I would add, particularly, if you're doing other significant treatments where you're counting on your body to detox well and otherwise act normally, giving your body the needed nutrition seems wise.

I didn't take it for a long time because of the biofilm thing. I'm very close to remission now..and I have symptoms of Mag deficiency so I recently have started taking it again.

Well, I hope the symptoms are of Magnesium deficiency. Just getting cramps and stuff.

Magnesium is needed by over 300 enzymes in the body. I do not see how avoiding magnesium is a good thing, no matter what infection(s) one is battling.

It's similar to a FEW doctors who think limiting anti-oxidants while going through Lyme treatment is a good thing.

We are all so deficient in vitamins and minerals that I totally disagree with that idea.

We are all different and have to find some sort of balance individually. I am all for supplementing my body what it's lacking in. I feel better when I take a little mag.

I asked my doc about this. He said, "First and foremost you need to feed your body and make it as strong as possible so you can beat Lyme." This was in regards to taking iron and also magnesium.
