Hello everyone. I am considering getting some Methylation testing done since I get so sick with abx and other supplements, seems I am not detoxing correctly.

I am not sure where to get tested. I have read that Doctors Data has a test and also that seekinghealth has a test from Vitamin Diagnostics.

Have any of you gotten tested and which tests did you order? Some I think you need a doctor for and some you don't. Thanks for any help.

MTHFR A1298C and MTHFR C677T tests: Any lab can do these, but you need a doctor's orders for most labs.

23andme.com - looks at many genes, some methylation (including both MTHFR A1298C & MTHFR C677T) & some others. Does not require doctor's orders.

Dr. Yasko's lab - the full methylation panel - does not require doctor's orders. http://www.holisticheal.com/health-tests/nutrigenomic-testing

Does anyone have any current research information on what exactly these mutations can cause? It seems like the only people in the know are a hand full of LLMD's and those of us seeing those LLMD's.

I keep on finding information that is 4+ years old, that is probably somewhat out of date - though I could be wrong.

Just getting a bit annoyed that I can't find any really good explanations and those that think they know, probably doesn't really know (meaning hematologists that I've talked to face to face).

I have a C677T/A1298C mutation and a friend of mine has two copies of C677T.

Usually I'm pretty good at researching this stuff on my own, but this one has me running around in circles for good information.

BTW: Your doctor can have your blood drawn for the MTHFR panel and if you have insurance, they will probably pay for this testing. So don't pay out of pocket unless your LLMD and your regular md refuses to run the labs for this.

Hugs!

Edessa

I did some basic methylation testing through Genova Diagnostic Lab in NC - called the detoxigenomic liver test.

Detoxigenomic test only does one methylation SNP and it is not a major one in Methylation (ComT).

I did my MTHFR test through Quest - my LLMD ordered it and I tested positive for two copies of C677T and negative for A1298C.

I don't know what to do with that information now though. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here?

This explains the tests pretty well.

I got them done at Holistic Heal. It is pricey and takes 3 months to get the results. I don't recommend buying the vitamins from there though because they are very expensive.

Also I was shocked to see the Neurological Health Formulae has the cheap versions we are not supposed to take, like cyanocobalamin (SP) and magnesium oxide. Crazy for the money they charge.

Dr. Roberts (not an LLMD) says you can test your urine with the sulfate strips and pretty much that will tell you if you are CBS positive or not. If you have high sulfates, then follow his diet restrictions.

You can cover most of your bases if you supplement vitamin D, methylfolate or folinic acid, methyl B12 and phosphotidycholine. Yasko sells phosphotidyserene which is supposed to be cheaper but you can buy the phsosphotidycholine on amazon.com and it is cheaper.

GABA helps to calm you if you feel wired. Taking these minimal supplements is pretty simple and does not hurt anything (washed out in urine if you don't need it). Saves about $1000 and you can see if it helps.

I did not get any benefit I could notice from BH4. Dr. Roberts recommends LipoPhosEDTA which is good for detoxing metals.

He also recommends Lifewave glutathione and carnosine patches. I did not notice much difference taking them.
