For those who did IV, how was your first ever dose? Were you able to drive home from the place where you infused and function okay?

I will usually infuse at home, but will have first dose under medical supervision. I asked a friend to be backup to take my service dog in case I have an allergic reaction - which won't happen [Smile] - and the friend asked, wait, do you need someone to drive you home?

Feedback?

I drove in myself to have the PICC line inserted and they gave me my first dose as a real slow drip.

No issues. If you have tolerated oral ABX so far the first IV dose should be OK. I was told week 4 on IV should result in a significant herx.

good luck

Thank you! I know this med is similar to the oral that was fine for me...it is just one of those things that seems like a big deal until after you do it. Thanks for responding.

Daughter had no problems with first dose of IV meds.

She did herx a few days later and then again about week 4.

Good luck with your treatment.

In case anyone searches this topic in future-
It was fine, but I did herx (I am hesitant to use that term so loosely) starting about 15 minutes after leaving the clinic. Within 5-10 minute period I felt very tired, like flu. Sort of drunk. Weak. I felt sensations in a spot that I think has a focal infection in my sinus/teeth/head.

Just when I was thinking it was going to last for months [Smile]
It settled down after 3-4 hours.

Since this is a twice a day infusion, I'm thinking I might have to infuse at 4 am and sleep it off if I want to be able to function in the mornings.

Mine was done at home. No reaction at all but I had an epipen there just in case.

When starting a new IV med, I always made sure someone was home with me, just in case.

I did fine and never had any allergic reaction to any of the IV or oral meds. This can happen anytime though even on orals.
