This does look very promising and NeuroScience is a great lab. It's my understanding that very early on in the history of lyme treatment a test such as this that was similar to the TB test was squashed by the political powers and we ended up with the Elisa and Western blot.

There is another test coming out soon as well. This one looks for antigens in urine. I can't link from my tablet, but google george mason and lyme. Several articles will come up. The partnering company is Ceres Nanosciences.

Good afternoon VV,
Some of the problems with tests based on cytokines is that they depend on immune recognition of the Spirochaete.
As we know from Dr Berndtson himself, and many many other authors of peer-reviewed papers, Borrelia is a master at stealth and immune evasion.
It's also impossible to tie down a SPECIFIC cytokine profile to Lyme Disease - there are simply too many variables. Co-infections, the general state of the patients' health etc etc.
Cytokine-based detection methods like the T-lymphocyte test or the Spirofind may pick up some cases missed by the CDC's hopeless two-tier criteria, but they remain INDIRECT test (even more indirect than Elisas and Western blots, when you think about it)
I emailed Holistic Primary Care and they will be correcting the spelling of B. burgdorferi, which they incorrectly spelled B. bergdorferi many times in the article.

It says that the standard western blot has 30% false positives. I don't think that's true. So makes me wonder what else they are saying that may be false.

NeuroScience is a very reputable lab and does other lyme testing, as well. I wouldn't write it off but would wait and see how it goes. It was said to me, many years ago, by my LLMD that this type of testing, similar to the TB test, is what was needed.
Let's hope it proves to be a new and better tool in testing for Lyme Disease.
