What's the scoop on this drug?

I'm reading it helps nerve pain, anxiety and sleep, but my one doc says there are some nasty side effects.

What do you guys think? I really need some symptomatic relief to help me along.

It made my feet and legs swell up. Similar to neurontin. About the same effectiveness.

I take 100mg 2x/day. When the pain is really bad, I take 200mg at night.

I'm also taking 200mg for anxiety like symptoms I believe caused by constant eye muscle spasms. It has slightly helped me. I haven't experienced any side effects at least not known and I've taken up to 300 mg. but it effects everyone different.

I take 200 mg twice a day coupled with lamictal. I have had no issues. I have even taken up to 600 mg per day when pain was really bad. For some reason my doctor couples it with lamictal because he said they work together.

Does anyone know if the CNS becomes dependent on it? Such that you have to decrease it gradually. I am at a stage where pain is almost non-existent on this dose and I want to reduce it.

Does lyrica actually help?

The nerve pain in my legs has now spread to my hips.

It feels like a cross between broken bones, the occasional electric shock and a pinched sciatic nerve. On both sides.

I am at my wits end with this. I can't sleep because the constant ache and nsaids do not work because it's nerve pain not real inflammation.

Worth a try. Neurontin is cheaper if money is an issue.

Thanks Lymetoo.

Does neurontin work as well? Did you notice any side effects?

when I was in terrible pain, constantly, my llmd suggested I try Cymbalta. I spoke with many people about it including my PCP who said, Cymbalta works better for pain and depression than Lyrica. It has certainly helped me, and I am on a tiny dose. I was also able to switch cleanly from Celexa (had taken for 12 years) to Cymbalta with no withdrawal or adverse effects. I do understand getting off Cymbalta may be difficult. But right now, anything that lessens pain is a good thing. BTW--- I have no side effects.

Thanks kudzu. [Smile]

I will ask my doc about cymbalta also.

He gave me something for the nerve pain but I have to work up to effective dose and at a quarter of the dose I feel very (more than normal) drowsy.

By the time I work up to the full dose I'll be catatonic.

Absolutely Lyrica helps. I have taken Neurontin in the past and it helps also.
