Hi all,

So the kiddos need a binder that won't constipate them.

Any suggestions?

LLMD recommended zeolite...which is constipating but totally works for me, the BM queen.

He apparently forgot that one of DD's major issues is constipation...so I'd really appreciate your advice!

Thanks in advance and sorry if TMI...

Most fiber acts as a quasi-binder...

Modified Citrus Pectin or Apple Pectin...

Magnesium...

Parsley or Cilantro...

DE is a good clearing binder.

BINDER:
powdered activated charcoal in grapefruit juice.

POOPING:
take psyllium 3 x day
slippery elm (1 tsp powder to 1 cup water--boil 10 mins) 2-3 x day
u can also take aloe powder in a capsule

one or all 3 above

I think Apple Pectin is mild, but works.

Thanks everyone for the responses!

Razzle, DD already takes mag (didn't realize this was considered a binder). What do you think is the least constipating...the Modified Citrus Pectin or Apple Pectin? And do you think either of these could be taken with the mag?

Regarding the cilantro/parsley...is this a Burber rec? Do you think the parsley and/or cilantro extracts could be taken along with other agents?

Catgirl, are you referring to diamateous earth (sp?)

sickpuppy, not crazy about activated charcoal to begin with and I think grapefruit juice is contraindicated for some the the meds.

And oy gavalt, we've tried EVERYTHING under the sun to help the pooping situation, including the psyllium. The ONLY thing that's worked is Miralax, believe it or not! DD does take a supp that contains slippery elm that contains other herbs to help rebuild the lining of her GI tract.

Haley, thx for the info on the apple pectin. Have you tried it? If you did, what was your experience?

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate the responses.

Have you tried using one of the binders mentioned, but upping the dose of magnesium and/or vitamin C (up to bowel toleranc)?

Sorry Beaches, yes, food grade diatomaceous earth. I like modified fruit pectin too, but for me, the DE does a better job of cleaning the plumbing, so to speak.

I'd think the citrus pectin would be less constipating.

I don't know if the pectin would prevent absorption of the magnesium or not...good question.
