I have been having very bad dental issues for the entire time I have had lyme. This goes back 10+ yrs at this point. Lately, I have started a new med for Bart, and it is a monster. I've been having alot of dental issues since starting (irritated gums, fleeting dental pain, moving from one tooth to another)

Yesterday, I took some peppermint oil and rubbed it on my gums and teeth. The pain and irritation went away promptly.

However, afterward, I got a very dull pain in the my jaw joint, right above my back tooth. My inner ears (which have been a problem for 8+ years) became even more full and started to ache as well.
I woke up with dental pain again today. Repeated the process to get the same exact results. Only today I used twice the amount of peppermint oil. and got double the pain.

Could this be die-off? Is it the pathogens fleeing my dental area for the upper jaw and ear? What the heck is going on?

I feel I am close to having a better understanding of what my poor head is dealing with. But I don't really know what this is yet.

Anyone?

It's probably die off. Parasites are particularly active before the full moon. My ears have been an issue for years as well. Parasite treatment has helped a lot (teeth, ears, jaw, sinuses, eyes).

I was also reading an article today that said lyme lives in teeth dentin. Also, my bart flares around full moons too.

Look into using pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) on the dental pain.

I did this, using the SOTA Magnetic Pulser, which transmits pulses of magnetic energy.
My toothache stopped!

The magnetic energy adjusts the electrical fields on both sides of the cell walls, so that minerals and nutrients can enter/exit.
With this improved circulation, the cells function better and inflammation and pain are reduced.

I first bought the Magnetic Pulser to treat painful joints, and then kept on finding more uses for it.

I had pain in my teeth making me think at one point I would have to have many extractions.

It always went away with babs treatment but it may have been a coincidence.

I've had the ear pain, fullness, sinus issues that didn't show on CT scans and pretty much left to suffer.

I had a small white colored bump on my gum years ago, dentist did root canal and put me on antibiotics.

I was fine for a while but then it got worse. I had surgery and the surgeon said he'd never seen anything like it but took his best shot at repairing it. (2005)

This past June I went to have it checked. The bone was deteriorated and surgeon said infection ate it away.

I had a bone graft but have to have another tomorrow as that one failed.

For sinus issues, ear pain, fullness dizziness, I'm FINALLY getting relief after 11 years.

What's working is using Budesonide off label for sinus instillation. Apparently it is severe inflammation causing those symptoms.

Carol - Would that magnetic pulser help to make the bone graft I'm getting tomorrow be successful?
This is getting old having surgery after surgery.

This product took away my dental pain. Dentist wanted to use a night guard but this product took the pain away. Dr. claims that it resolves some gut issues too.

I agree with Carol, PEMF helps. PEMF helps repair cells and also kills parasites. I get ondamed for this.

the Sota is not terribly expensive, but still out of my range. How did you learn to use it, Carol in PA?

I would try anything at this point. Is the Sota something that can be used for multiple ailments?

Look up Trigeminal Neuralgia here's one link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigeminal_neuralgia

I truly believe that the dang bugs eat the myelin sheath around these nerves, causing excruciating pain. There are 5 main nerves that branch from your brain and over your eyes; down the side of your face where there is a cluster of nerves just in back of your ear. Then there are two nerves that branch off this nerve to your upper teeth and lower teeth.

I have talked extensively with my dentist about these nerves. It is a part of their training. However, they don't realize that Lyme and other co-infections can cause the myelin sheath is basically eaten by the spirochetes and leaves these nerves exposed.

If I pay attention to where the headache starts, in my forehead, then feel it slowly or suddenly go to the side of my head behind the ears, I know my lower teeth are going to ache something fierce and even chewing on the left side is painful. The pain doesn't have to start in a particular place or follow the rules of a path. Sometimes it just starts in my teeth or just behind my ear.

There is a prescription cream that you can apply topically that you get from a compound pharmacy that helps some people with this sort of pain. I can pm the recipe to those interested.

I used to take 12+ ibuprofen to get through the day from this pain. I'm up to one or two oxycodone when it gets to my teeth.

I will be seeing neurologist, probably not lyme friendly, but I want to discus a possible diagnosis of this nerve pain, one being Trigeminal Neuralgia. I will post more on the visit afterward. I see him on the 23rd.

Root canals and pulling teeth may not be necessary and I would actually question this route of treatment thoroughly. Those I have known to have this sort of pain; even one person I know that has gone as far as having major surgery on nasal passages (she is still in extreme pain and it's worse now), and all of these people have had little success in getting rid of this pain.

Be very careful with messing with healthy looking teeth, it may not be the actual teeth, but the nerves running along the gums at the root.

hugs,

Edessa

I totally agree with Edessa. I thought it was clove oil that was good for dental pain. I have not heard of peppermint oil for it.

Yes!

Back later with some links.

Edessa, I'd like that recipe if you have it. Thanks!

Clove oil might help with the pain temporarily. It is used for a tooth ache due to cavities until a dentist can be seen from my understanding, which is basic at best.

Definitely worth a try like Carol says. If it's behind the ear, you could try rubbing clove oil as far back along the teeth and jaw gum line as far as you can reach.

Basically you want to target the nerve that runs along the upper and lower teeth at the gum line and upper/lower tissue.

Untreated Lyme will manifest with many neuralgia.
Tri germinal neuralgia goes through the ear canal down the inside of the jaw bone ,thru the lower jaw and out underneath the lower bicuspids.it is many times unilateral and treatment is
Difficult if not impossible.
The seventh cranial nerve neuralgia causes bell palsy since it is mainly a facial nerve.
Both nerves go thru the ear Canal and both cause severe problems
Keeping the Lyme in order helps, but many abx cause some problems
Neuralgic meds do help if dx correctly.
Tegritol, neurotin, trileptal and others do work if needed, but a neurologist is best with dx.

this is the first I'm hearing about treatment for this. I have been jumping up and down for years now trying to find someone who can help.
Are these meds fo addressing symptoms? Or are they for helping fight the infection.

I won't accept that I'm stuck with it. If I'm stuck with this, then I must be stuck with Lyme and coinfections as well, right?

I can't swallow abx for the rest of my life, which will be cut short if I continue doing so.

I had trigeminal neuralgia when I had lyme and was getting poor lyme treatment. I found that Benadryl relieved the pain. Others have said the same. I think it reduces swelling where the facial nerve comes out in front of the ear.

I couldn't tolerate a high enough dose of neurontin to help with this pain. Also, cranio-sacral therapy didn't work for me.

This is an ungodly pain. It would strike my face like it was being electrocuted. The pain was often brought on by chewing vigorously, like at dinner.

Good lyme treatment got rid of this symptom for me.

I also had pain in the teeth, down in the jaw. This is something totally different and separate from the trigeminal neuralgia. You can't pinpoint a particular tooth. This pain is bad. It is continuous. For me, it became a burning pain down my jaw. I lived on Lortab for about 6 months when I had it and had not yet been diagnosed with lyme disease. I wanted my head cut off.

A dental surgeon said the cause is inflammation. He had me take anti-inflammatories (high doses of Advil). But, nothing helped. Cold, wet days made it worse. The doc predicted that my pain would not go away until warm weather arrived, and that is what happened.

Trigeminal neuralgia is totally unbearable and will cause you to scream out when it strikes. It doesn't sound to me like you are describing TN. Here is a good link about it:

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/trigeminal_neuralgia/detail_trigeminal_neuralgia.htm

I also had bilateral bells palsy prior to diagnosis. So, as you can see, a lot of my facial nerves were affected by this disease. It is not uncommon.

Tooth and jaw pain is one of the specific symptoms related to protomyxzoa. I had it too. I had the dentist take xrays of the are and nothing was there.

The pain went away with treatment.

No that is not me for sure. I just have horribly clogged ears, traveling tooth and jaw pain. The pain I was complaining about is gone, but has moved to the lower jaw. Sometimes it's excrutiating, sometimes just uncomfortable.

Physically, I must say I am quite well, but these neuro symptoms are impossible to shake.

Try a Lyme friendly neurologist.
The only one I know that helped me was the head of neurology at Jefferson hospital in Philadelphia
Dr. M.
Very very intelligent and Lyme literate. However, he may no longer be practicing.
Yes the meds along with antiinflamatories will make you comfortable, when you find the right combo.
Must eventually get off abs to get better

I'm on Lyrica for nerve pain. It's not helping as well as it used to. I have a Neurologist (not LL) appt tomorrow and will ask for him to change things up.

stymielymie is right: "Yes the meds along with antiinflamatories will make you comfortable, when you find the right combo."

I think I'm having break through pain because I can't take anti-inflammatories due to trying to heal some ulcers.
