Having a hard time with non stop yawning.

Not sure if it's lyme EBV or CMV.

I yawn about 3 times a minute or more and it lasts for about an hour.

If I lay down it stops. But if I'm sitting or standing the yawning goes on and on over and over.

I've been yawning so much the muscles in my neck and jaw are sore to the touch.

And, the area around my lips turns blueish and my lips go very pale.

Anyone had this? What helps it? Is this pots?

On any new antidepressant, I know some of them can cause excessive yawning....not sure about the blue lips though

Started taking Effexor for nerve pain.

Is this one that can cause excessive yawning?

Could it be air hunger? I know sighing can be air hunger... What about anemia? That might explain the yawning and the blue. Are you just overworked? Hugs Greta.

Kudzu-Yes, maybe it is air hunger. I forgot about air hunger...

Will also talk to my doc regarding the Effexor, Steve.

Greta, this sounds like vagus nerve stimulation.

Yawning and vasodilation (causing low BP and pale or blue lips) can be early signs of vasovagal attack.

We get this in Lyme, but it can also happen w some meds.

The yawning itself is benign (except for the sore muscles!), but if you feel faint, nauseous and sweaty, be sure to go lie down. And let your doc know.

BTW, I had the yawning when I started Zoloft. It was awkward, but nothing more. The med was working, so I just dealt w the weird side effect until it passed.

I've never had yawning w air hunger, but I'm sure some people have.

Just read the lying down part. Yes, likely vagus nerve if symptoms resolve when lying down.

Can you reduce your dose? Don't have a vasovagal attack. They suck.

My air hunger was yawning. I felt I needed a deep breath and kept struggling to yawn so I could fill my lungs. I had it with babesia, not borellia or bartonella. I also have it with protomyxzoa.

Check out this breathing method called "buteyko" I'm sure it would be difficult during a yawning attack, but it works so well if you can get the control going.

Here is one link, but there are youtube videos and more if you use a search engine:

It has helped my son greatly. Now when he is feeling poorly, or asthma like he takes small breaths through his nose. Lets the CO2 and O2 levels in our blood return to normal.

Boxermom-thanks! I will be sure to lay down when it happens. I don't get sweaty. Very strange feeling as though if I wasn't yawning-then my body wouldn't be breathing automatically.

Neff-i was wondering about proto as I have sores on my scalp, in my ears and under my boobs and an incredible craving for fatty snacks.

Canadianmama-I will be sure to check the link and try the breathing exercise. If I can get the hang of it-maybe I won't have the yawning fits again.

You're not getting enough oxygen.

Can you contact your LLMD urgently? Grandmother is right.

If you have not got one or cannot see one at the moment, please see any doctor urgently. They can at least monitor your saturation levels and may be able to help you in the short term even if they don't know the underlying cause.
