Hi,

Can someone suggestion a sublingual B-12, like a liquid or lozenge?

I tried on and it was a pink tablet. It was gritty, made my mouth swell up in pain and itch.

I also need some alpha-lipoic-acid suggestions.

I just started back on doxy and the one I've been using has calcium.

Thanks!

Hi Judie!

I take natural factors B12 (methylcobalamin). It's in a white bottle with a pinkish/purpleish label and I get it from Wegmans.

The pills are white with little dark spots in them. I can personally attest that your body (well at least my body) does soak up all that B12... because I was deficient for a long time and my doctor just checked it last week and I was at 900 something! (A HUGE improvement!!!!)

I don't have a suggestion for the alpha lipoic acid - b/c I don't really like mine that I take, so I plan on switching once they're finished. :-)

I use Vitacost brand ALA, 600 mg capsule. Vitacost also has many B12 lozenges that are good.

I know I wasn't the original requester for the info... but thanks faithful. I will try vitacosts's ALA. I buy some other stuff from them, so I will order it with my next order! :-)

Thanks everyone. I'll look into the suggestions.

sparklyholiday - Was the B12 gritty at all? The ingredients look good.

I also saw that Bea posted about Max ALA on a thread. I'm trying to get more info on that too.

Judie, It is a little gritty, but not too bad.

I have a feeling that most sublingual tablets have some sort of grit to them as they fall apart.

But this b12 melts away fairly easily once it starts falling apart.

sparklyholiday - Thanks! How long does it take for it to dissolve?

The one I tried before took over 20 minutes the first time I tried it. The the allergic reaction kept getting worse each time I tired to use it and I had to spit it out.

For ALAmax, does anyone know if you need 2 pills per day since 1 pill already has 600mg?

Thanks!

Ohhh no, not that long... maybe 5 minutes...

I know it wasn't any longer than 10 max -- I can't go that long without yelling at my son. HAHAHA!! :-P

Try B12 drops if you don't want to wait for it to dissolve.

Pure Encapsulations has one:

I know that Douglas makes one as well.

I'm supposed to take 1 Alamax 2x/day. It's sooo expensive though. Lately, I've only been taking it 1x/day to save $.

Thanks everyone!

All of the B12s recommended are cheaper than 1 visit to the doc to get a shot.

I look forward to trying these.

Lax Mom - Do you notice a difference when taking Alamax?

For ALA I too suggest Xymogen's "ALAMax CR". High potency, extended release. Consider also getting Xymogen's NAC, as it isn't very expensive and the two of them work together to accomplish many of the same goals in the hepatic detoxification pathways and overall health.

For sublingual B-12, I can think of non better than Perque's "Activated B-12 Guard". At 2000 mcg per lozenge, it is highly potent, but the most important thing is that unlike so many others, it uses hydroxocobalamin which have been proven to be superior in absorption to even methylcobalamin in many cases (Check with your practitioner, as always. There are some cases when methylcobalamin can be preferable though) If you'd prefer methylcobalamin, Xymogen has a "Methylcobalamin" lozenge that's a fine product as well.

. Don't forget that if you're taking B12, its a good idea to look into taking an activated form of folate as well, 5-MTHF. Xymogen has an inexpensive "5-MTHF" product if you need one.

Xymogen and Perque make great supplements, but are not sold on the open market and thus can be very expensive from gray-market resellers or practitioners.

Hope this helps.

Blackstone - Wow, thanks for all the good info. It sounds like you really know this stuff.

I'm stuck self-treating right now until an appointment in November.

Is there a big difference between folic acid and folate?

One doc's having me take lots of Folapro per day and it was getting expensive at that office (green and healthy has it for 1/2 the price I just discovered, but it's still a lot for the amount I'm taking).

I was also getting hydrocobalimin shots there, but everything is overpriced at that office and I'm moving on (they also don't believe a bulls-eye rash is Lyme disease, ugh....).

They first tried me on the oral tablet of Methylcobalamin and that's what made my mouth swell up.

That's when I started going in for weekly shots.

I know you're asking for sublingual, but could you do the shots yourself? I find the shots much more effective for me than pills.

Infuserve has 30 doses of 1mg/ml methylcobalamin pre-loaded in syringes for about $60 shipped. I do 1mg IM daily or every other day and they help me tremendously for depression, OCD and anxiety.

No shots please. I'm trying to avoid those. They give me too much anxiety and it's not something I have the energy to try to "get over" right now.

This is one of the big reasons I want to go back sublingual.

I used to be like that too. I would faint from shots. Now I stab them in my leg (and mine are IM) like it's nothing. I'm getting a pretty good technique too lol [Smile] .

Good luck! I hope you are able to find a sublingual brand that works well for you.

No No No. It's giving me PTSD symptoms just thinking about it. Even just mentioning it is freaking me out. No shots.

I appreciate you wanting to help though.
