Use n-acetylcisteine. It helps the flow of mucous. It has something to do with sulfur processes, so you may need support if you have problems with sulfur--like taking it with lipoic acid. I have asthma and I can tell if I've forgotten to take it.
Also, chili peppers. they help from the inside out. It is the capsascin that also helps thin muccous. Make yourself some caldo de tortilla. Chicken soup with a couple of diced tomatoes and some diced jalapenos. In a bowl, put in corn tortilla strips that have been quickly fried. over the strips in the bowl, add grated cheddar or your favorite melty cheese. Pour the hot soup into the bowl and over the strips and grated cheese. This always helps me. I have snuck packets of Taco Bell's hot sauce and eaten them to help when I have had congestion. Albersons sells it in the bottle form. It works when other things do not.

Thyme! Boil up a bunch of thyme and then remove the pot from the stove.

Put a towel over your head and breath the vapors.

Thyme is one of the reasons chicken soup helps when you're sick (with parsley, sage, and rosemary).

You can use a netipot or rhino horn with sinus rinse (packets you get at the drugstore). That will clear it out, but you need clear instruction on how to use one or it will just frustrate you.

I can post directions if you like.

I did thyme and the rhino horn when I had a sinus congestion from a cold. This helped me get rid of it when nothing else helped.

Nazanol by metagenics is good too.

I swear by Mucinex.......also peppermint essential oil sprinkled in a hot steamy shower. Yes to the neti-pot! But if you are already really congested the pot rinse my temp. increase your congestion.
