So my LLMD prescribed me cefdinir rifampin and flaygl
I was unable to tolerate the cefdinir it killed my stomach I tried toughing the pain out for a
few days but LLMD told me to stop it and switched it to ceftin.
I am a week in and so far no stomach problems but do you guys think it will be as affective as the cefdinir?
Also I am starting to get really itchy in my legs and my face is a tint red and a little itchy.
Do you guys thinks it is a herx or a allergic reaction?
Should I tough it out or take benadryl or something?
On a side note the flaygl wont be started for another week 1 day a week for 2 weeks then 2x a day after that.
My LLMD wont be available to talk to until monday.
I am drinking lemon water and doing epsom salt footbaths to detox.

This might be an allergic reaction. I'd suggest try a dose of Benedryl tonight and see if it gets better. You've taken Benedryl before? It may make you sleepy.
This way when you call your doc, you can tell him that you tried Benedryl, and that it helped/didn't help.
In years past, I've had patients that tried to "tough it out" and developed really awful allergic rashes.
Ive heard that benedryl messes with medication thats why I hesitated and thought I'd ask on here first

- An allergy to a medication can develop at any time, even if prior use was fine. As this could be an allergic reaction, I would stop the suspected medicine, not even one more dose.
See if your body settles down being off of it but also get some Benadryl into your body. An allergic reaction can be severe. That possibility is priority to address at the moment. By the time you talk with your doctor in a couple days you will know if stopping helped.

I had the same issue. I couldn't tolerate Cefdinir and went on Ceftin. I stayed on Ceftin at different dosages for about a year. Ceftin isn't as broad spectrum as Cefdinir but it can certainly do the job.
If you are itchy, that is a sign of allergic reaction. If you are sure it is the Ceftin, stop for a couple of days and see if the itching stops.
In remission now.

The thing is I have no idea whether it is the rifampin or ceftin and I ddon't really want to stop
them because I am making progress. I've been on ceftin before with no issue and right now I've been
on rifampin and ceftin together for about a week but just starting to get itchy now. It is not
enough itching to drive me crazy just enough where I notice it. I'm hoping it will pass? Ugh
nothing is easy with this disease.

Is there any possibility the itchiness could be caused by something else?
I know this time of year my skin dries up because everywhere has the heaters on.
Also, have you switched to any new laundry soaps, body washes, fabric softeners, etc?
Just trying to think of things that make my skin itch.
When do you see your doctor next? Hopefully your doc will be able to tell if it's an allergic reaction (hives, other systems involved etc) or perhaps die-off, or an external trigger.

I am not sure. It is very weird itchiness that is in my face. I have had it before and it does make
sense that it happens this time of year from new england whether change but my skin isn't dry and
itchy it is more greasy for a lack of better word and my pours are bigger. I'd rather it be from
something else than the antibitoics because I don't want to stop treatment. I am going to try
some benadryl or something later and see if that helps at all I guess.

Its been two days and I'm still itchy. It is mostly my face. I took benadryl to see if that helped but
I keep falling asleep on it so I can't really tell. I am going to have to go with no? I guess I am
going to just continue to take the meds until I can call my LLMD on tuesday as I don't want to stop my
treatment. I am feeling a little worse than usual though. I can't get these shakes and tremors to go away.

I'd stop EVERYTHING until the allergy reaction calms down (I'm allergic to 6 antibiotics and have been through what you're describing more times than I like).
Start with 1 medication at a time. NO MORE. Stay on it for a week before adding another one.
Do this with ALL meds when you have to take multiple ones, especially with the sensitivities that you're showing (stomach problems, itchiness, etc...).
I'm SERIOUS.
I've had some of THE WORST allergic reactions on the planet and have been to the emergency room more times than I like.

By the way, when you find meds that you aren't allergic to, you will heal much faster. Sticking it out will not work with an allergic reaction.
I'm on Ceftin and doxy for antibiotics and it's been a serious miracle this combo for me.
Find the combo that works for you body (I know it's a hassle playing antibiotics roulette).

I'd see if they can try something similar, that maybe you won't have a reaction to. I got unbearably itchy when I started IV Rocephin. They switched me from the syringe type to the gravity drip type, and while I did still have a bit of itchiness, it was a million times better.
My doctor said something about it not exactly being an allergy, but something to do with mast cells/histamine. So they did tell me to take a Benadryl before doing a dose, but Benadryl knocks me out immediately too.
Sometime to be careful with. When they tried Vancomycin in the office with me, I got something called Red Man Syndrome. I got itchy, and red, and hot, which is not so terrifying. But apparently that's a precursor to your blood pressure dropping, which is pretty bad.
