Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with smoking marijuana and having Lyme disease. I smoked last night for the first time in awhile and I feel worse today than I have in a very long time. Does marijuana cause a herx?

I'm not sure, everyone is different, but read this>

MJ has been reported to have antibacterial properties. I was smoking it back in the late 70's when I got bitten very badly including having a fully engorged tick on my arm.

I didn't have any Lyme symptoms for 5yrs while smoking. What finally put me into full blown Lyme was the result of an accident.

After i collapsed I was too toxic to smoke anything. I am sure it was the MJ that helped keep the Lyme at bay. Didn't eradicate it though.

Some people talk about juicing it raw... That's not a reality for me now but it may help some. I always read it decreased the immune function but I don't know if it's propaganda.

That's very interesting Gael! I was reading that many people can harbor these pathogens but going through stress or a trauma can trigger them. If this is the case - testing doesn't really mean anything.

They talk about this alot with fibromyalgia. I do think they are separate illnesses. I don't think it's all Lyme... After all these years - I really don't know. There's alot that is mysterious about all these illnesses like Lyme, parasites, CFS, fibro, etc. I still don't think we have the whole picture. We probably don't even know the half of it.

Generally, if something makes one feel worse, it's probably best to avoid it. Everyone is unique. We just have to try things & see if they help.

Cannabis does not suppress immune function. Smoking does. However the benefits of the plant are palpable, and cannabinoids absorbed from smoking will have a beneficial effect.

That article is an opinion article. there are some very good scientific articles on the benefits of MJ. The following article is one of hundreds of articles and video testimonies on the benefits of MJ, particularly with Lyme.

http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/09/12/amazing-story-the-healing-power-of-cannabis-oil-on-lyme-disease-and-lyme-co-infections/

I am not a scientist or doc, or even a MJ advocate. But I will say that my personal experience has been very positive with it. I had my biggest improvement during a time when I was consuming it regularly. My belief is that it actually calmed my body and brain down, letting my immune system do some much needed work.
It is not for everyone. Especially Lyme patients that lack experience with the herb. It is illegal in many places still, even for medical use, so that is also a consideration. If it were legal, I'd be cooking with it as much as possible.
Rick simpson oil is saving lives. Look into it. $1200 could buy a very big turn around another corner.

You all miss some points. Your body makes your own cannabinoids. The sicker you are, the less you make of them. Simple as that. The phytocannabinoids help your own system. It fits like a key.

That's why the lady (who had lyme for sure) recovered. Of course when you smoke it, you destroy most of the cannabinoids or the dosage of them (like a supplement) is too low. You need a full extract to get all the benefits from it.

You should really look into it. The Endocannabinoid system is responsible for the "control" for most of our symptoms and damaged by lyme and coinfections. That is the reason why it works so well.

It can also make you detox or herx. Alsmot any cannabinoid is antibiotic or antifungual. Even some are antiparasitic. I know a lady who was a patient of a very famous LLMD and she didnt make progress, she just got worse. Then she discovered cannabis and got better. Now she says she's cured.

The most potent application of cannabis is in Rick Simpons oil. It cures most cancers. Cancers are caused by at least in part, a pathogen, either fungal, viral or bacterial, but mostly the two former.

I'd say that there is a pretty good shot of curing lyme with RSO and if I lived in Colorado thats the direction I'd be going.

Like any other antimicrobial cannabis can cause a herx.

I just can't even image smoking mj. I was a teenager in the 70s, so I've been around.

Even the thought of it makes my head spin. Lyme brain makes me woozie enough. And the munchies? I like to be in control of my body/mind and for that I rarely ever have a drink.

One margarita and I'm buzzed. Thanksgiving I dilute some white wine. Oh my, wine drinking day is coming up.

I did see the big 60 Minutes story on medical mj and everything going on in Colorado. Oh my, quite the operation and the number of stores was unreal.

I'm sorry so many are in so much pain & suffering and need this to get by. To those in the system, using the system....shame on them.

Pain pill abusers have now made the sick and pain suffers feel like criminals trying to get help.

Now I'm this grandmother that has to pee in a cup to prove I'm using my own rx and not selling?

How is Rick Simpson oil different from regular cannabis oil from a reputable dispensary? Am unclear on this.

I am not sure. You would have to compare how cannibis oil is made to how RSO is made to make sure they are equal or different. There are lots of youtube videos on how to prepare it.

Who's making you do this? That's incredible... I took oxycontin for a long time. I took extremely small doses & it helped me to function. I'm not into drugs but chronic pain is very hard to handle - especially if we don't know what exactly is causing it.

When my prescription ran out, I couldn't really afford to go to a pain doctor so I tried kratom. It works really well for me. It's legal in most states but they are trying to make it illegal. It competes with Big Pharma. If more people knew about it - it would really cut into their profits.

It's good for a number of conditions such as pain, anxiety, lack of energy, etc. It's not for everyone but for me - it's a miracle herb. I don't have anything against weed. I would like to try juicing it if it were available in my state. It doesn't help me with my particular pain, though.

New state laws. They are cracking down big time on pill addiction in this state. Guilty until you've proven your urine contains your scripts.

All out pill war. Now the addicts have turned to heroin and meth.
