I could really use some thoughts here.

My mom no longer has her thyroid gland.

She has Lyme, Bartonella, Cancer and has been just diagnosed with Grave's Disease.

She has bulging eyes and chronic fatigue.

Her thyroid stim immunoglobulin and thyrotropin receptor AB, serum are both very high. I don't understand what either of these tests indicate.

The Dr's are stumped and she's not improving.

Can anyone offer any insight or similar experiences?

Thank you for any help

Graves disease is hyperthyroid and her testing is high.....but she no longer has her thyroid gland.
Bulging eyes is hyperthyroid and fatigue is usually from hypothyroid.

Is she on thyroid replacement meds? I'm sure she's probably been since removal of gland?

What meds is she on and dose?

Lyme and bart can both throw the entire hormonal glands out of whack. Adrenal, parathyroid, etc.

I've talked to someone recently that was going from hypo to hyper and back and forth during blood testing.

The resecptor AB is the immune system part of thyroiditis. High #s mean the immune system is attacking the gland itself. Also known as Hashimoto's.

I did find this site which explains some of your concerns.

http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/thyroid-antibodies/tab/test

But your mother has lyme and bart and cancer involved in her illness right now. So her whole immune system doesn't know up from down.

Thank you Pam.

She is on synthroid, I think 110mcg but don't quote me on that.

She was diagnosed initially with Hashimoto's and that's why they zapped her gland, many years ago.

Her endocrinologist and eye Dr agree that steroids are what she needs to get it under control. She also has very bad double vision.

She was put on high dose steroids a little over a year ago for her thyroid problems and that's when we found out she had Lyme bc everything broke loose.

As soon as the steroids were stopped, she crashed hard. I'm very afraid of her being put back on them again.

Well only a lyme ignorant doctor would put a lyme patient on steroids. So now you guys know better than to be lead down the "I don't know how to heal you, so let me load you up with steroids" medical establishment.

I've been hypo for years and years, long before lyme dx. My thyroid is dead, ultra sound shows zero blood flow to that gland.

My immune system is attacking it. Hashimoto's But IMHO, it's a dead organ and I have a dark shaded area(non-cancerous) that is being measured and watched.

What a perfect place for a extra large family of bacteria & it's buddies to hang out. Therefore my immune system is trying to attack the party of bad guys.

I've got some good reading saved. Let me look it up and post it here for you.

Is it possible for your mother to get to this Deborah A Metzger MD in Ca?

I seriously doubt I could get her to go to CA.

I really think her issues are all Lyme related.

The cancer treatment has worn her down. I think she's just tired of all Dr's and all meds at the moment.

I'm trying to get a plan of action together for when she becomes more open minded again.

I too can't or I should say won't spend the dollars to go see this doc. So I take her writing and lyme smarts about what it does to the other parts of our bodies, and try to get help within my city.

Oh, yeah the lyme & co is driving this mess. The cancer has lowered the immune system big time. Deal with cancer. When she is able dive into lyme & co.

Lyme tx can and will help the thyroid going wacko.
