I have had return of head pain going on 3 weeks steady now.

The odd thing, is when I am standing and moving around, it hangs at about a "4" on the pain scale.

When I sit down, or even worse when I lay down, it almost instantly goes to an "8".

It does not respond to usual migraine med, does not respond to NSAIDS or muscle relaxers, and didn't respond to IV glutathione.

Sleeping is a really painful struggle for me every night.

Anyone else have this? What could it be? The only other clue I have is the lids and tissue around my left eye is often swollen when the ice-pick headaches have been at me for a while.

If it is caused by a muscle spazm someplace on your skull, which I pretty much am sure you do, then you are putting pretty on the already compromised blood flow from the spazm. I have sooooo been in your shoes.

The pain you feel behind your eye is 'referred pain' from a muscle spazm in a different location. I would suspect at the base of your skull on the left side, since you mention your left eye.

A trigger point (knot or spazm) will NOT go away on it's own. Migraine meds, muscle relaxants anf NSAID's won't touch it. It has to be broken up manually or they get bigger and more painful.

For me, trigger point injections bust up the spazms, and IV magnesium treatment fixed the mineral deficiency that caused them in the first place.

That always happened to me with my migraines. Hard to get away from it if you can't even lie down!!

Praying that it lets up soon!

Would cranial therapy help with the muscle spasms?

I get that from time to time and it's from the tight muscles in my neck.

I've tried niacin before, but I find the flushing is very uncomfortable, and afterwards my lips, fingernails and toes turn blue and I get very cold.

I keep meaning to ask my doc why that happens to me after flushing niacin. I would like to be able to take it, as I believe in the health benefits of the flush.

In the meantime, since it seems to be neck related for most of you, I am going to try trigger point therapy on my neck.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone. All very helpful and gives me something to try.

Any chance you could try acupuncture?

Yes, I can definitely try some acupuncture for it.

Good suggestion, Lymetoo [Smile]

Sometimes when I get them I can't lie down either... Have you ever tried plain old sudafed for them? If I catch them in time it helps me keep them at bay... I believe it unconsticts the blood vessels. Has to be the real psuedoephedrine though, the kind you get behind the counter. I also wrap a microwaved heating pad around my head!

Feel better Greta.

Yes! Exactly.

The ketes are having a party.

If I touch or rub my left eye, it feels like it will pop. Then when I take my hand away, it feels like my hand is still pressing for 10 minutes afterwards.
