How long should it be before experiencing a herx after starting abx? I began treatment with Doxy three days ago, and thought I'd begin feeling worse by now... I'm not yet noticing anything. Is that normal? It's not a bad sign, is it?

It's different for everyone.

Your body might be able to get rid of stuff and you may never experience a herx. It's not necessarily a good sign or a bad sign to herx, it can just means something is going on.

I know someone who's never herxed who has Lyme and has improved.

I only herxed once and it was at day 3 during a reinfection, it left after a day and was more minor than PMS. I never herxed the first time I went through treatment and did fine.

I agree with Judie - it is completely different for each person.

For myself - I herx about 1-2 weeks after starting Abx.

Would depend how infected I am. Early on, one 100 mg. pill of Doxy would send me down the depths of herx h*%# within a couple hours of taking it.

Towards the end of my treatment w/ Doxy I could tolerate 400 mg.s w/o a problem. All depends.

My dh never herxed- just went straight to feeling better. His detox pathways are good which helped.

It's usually Day 4 .. so look out! [Smile] Some people never herx and others take longer to herx the first time.

Thanks, these are helpful. I feel better now [Smile] I actually woke this morning (entering day 4) with pretty serious aches in my hips and lower back. Thought maybe it was a type of herx reaction. My hips and back still ache some, but not as much as this morning.

For some reason, I thought I'd be feeling similar to having the flu...achy all over and severely run down, but that hasn't happened. Ok, anyway, I feel better about things knowing an immediate herx is not a requirement for progress. Cheers!

Aren't Lyme patients a weird bunch!? We celebrate when we get a positive test and when we herx.
