Hi all,

My new llmd put me on xifaxin abx for possible Lyme colitis, and will wants to add more oral abx like doxy, depending how I react to it. (and mepron and diflucan, I think)

I just started the Xifaxin today. 550mg 2x a day.

Last time I took a tiny dose of doxy it finished off my gut. So my new llmd wants to try to help the colon before he gives the dozy

Is this antiparasitic too? does it work for babesia too-- becasue I feel shortness of breath again.

Does xifaxin antibiotc do anything for Lyme?

I'd appreciate any input from those who have used this if it hits anything at all, other than the gut.

Thanks all for any input!

UH OH.

I took Xifaxin 3 yrs ago and I am still angry with myself and my GI dr for that mistake.

He gave it to me for what he THOUGHT was SIBO. NOPE! It was CANDIDA tearing up my gut. So .. the Xifaxin made it way way worse.

I have spent the last 3 yrs trying to recover from that.

AS for your question.. it is an antibiotic that only works IN THE GUT. It will not work on any other organs in the body, not the skin, etc. It will not have any effect on Lyme.

actually, my new LLMD gaave it to my for what he believes is Lyme colitis.

I'm supposed to be on it a week amd then he wants to add on other abx for the Lyme and co. If my colon is ok.

I had alot of diarreah in the past which showed up on a colonoscopy that its a mild inflammation of the colon, which I never had before. so that's why he gave it to me- I believe.

Does it give more candida than any other abx? I'm leaving for the weekend bkut I want to read your responses when I get back.

I've taken it many times for protozoa infections. It never caused me any problems at all. It is very poorly absorbed, and pretty much just works on killing the bad things in your intestines that may be causing you problems. I would follow your Dr's instructions

If you truly have colitis, it may help. But be on the watch for candida. It was horrible for me. I would say it's worse than other drugs for it, but that may just be because my gut is in such bad shape.

Hi,

yes I truly have a mild colitis, but enough to not make me tolerate orals, and my veins are shot from IV. This new LLMD is very reputable

I've been to several mainstream GI's who were stymied by the results of the colonoscopy report, which states that I have a 'mild inflamation non specific for microsopic or diagnostic colitis.'

But there is a mild inflammation.

Which came out of nowhere, because I didn't have it five years ago. ANd they-the mainstream GI's don't know why it came.

One Lyme literate GI doc thinks its from the Lyme and co. and this LLMD thinks so too. which is why I'm on this med.

And he plans on adding on doxy and mepron and diflucan for treatment.

Is Xyfaxin anti-parasitic? Could it treat babesia too?

Originally he wanted me on Alinia, but my insurance didn't cover it. So that's why he put be on this med Xyfaxin.

Why is Xifaxin worse for candida than other abs?

I'm worried my gut won't be able to handle anything?

IMHO, Xifaxin will only drive the Lyme out of the gut into other places in the body... Need systemically active abx for Lyme/co's.

That said, I see no reason not to try it -- but I do think it should only be given in conjunction with systemically active abx. or herbs...

he is putting me on other abx. I just hope I will tolerate it.

unitl now, I've been of IM and Iv.. But I witched docs and this one ony does orals.

He's not a fan of Iv especially as my veins are terrible.
