I've long suspected that I had systemic mycoplasma due to my symptoms and my proneness to pneumonia.

How do I know if I have that?

My IGG is high - but isn't that just indicative of a past infection? If lyme messed up my immune system, then wouldn't it be low?

Here are my results, can someone help me decipher? (I want to come up with a list of questions to ask my doc next week, when I see him):

--m pneumoniae igg abs 201 Ref: 0-99 High
m pneumoniae igm abs <770 Ref: 0-769 Normal

--chlamydia pneumoniae igg 1:256 Neg:<1:16 High
chlamydia pneumoniae igm <1:10 Neg:<1:10 Normal

Thanks so much for any input!

You may want to google
Dr. Garth Nicolson

Also, Stephan Buhner's book on co-infections
Bartonella and Mycoplasma
has incredible insight into Myco.

On a children's board, Myco comes up often, and it is believed/ stated there high IGG means you have an issue with it...

FWIW.

"When a test is performed for a microbe, we want to know not only whether you have it in your body, but more importantly, whether it is active or not. In chronic infections, the level of activity of a microbe can be gauged to a certain extent by the amount of IgG antibodies your body produces in response to that microbe. High levels of IgG antibodies tend to suggest an active chronic infection"

My IgG for mycoplasma pneumonia is close to 1000. I definitely have it as a chronic infection.

You need a doc who knows about coinfections who can evaluate you both clinically and through labs for the right treatment plan.

I would like to second the recommendation for Buhner's Myco / Bart book.

You should also skim some of the posts on this sight by Mathias.

Hopefully I will represent him correctly.

He also tested high for M.pneumoniae. He did not respond to the treatment (treatment is specific to the species of Myco).

It turns out he had M fermentans. The species cross react on the IgG/IgM tests.

He recommends the PCR tests from MDLabs.

I plan to get these done soon because I also have have high IgG to M pneumoniae
