Lately the sensation that I'm not going to be able to walk comes over me...usually when i wake during the night, when my lower back and hip aches wake me up and i have to stretch to relieve them to try to get back to sleep....up until recently i occasionally had electric shocks in the lower back that would wake me,it wasn't painful but was disturbing
BUT now this sensation of immobility is more intense and i feel like i'm not going to have any motor skills, i have to consciously decide OK go and try to move your legs out of bed
i had a bad virus/bacteria a few weeks ago that i'm still suffering lingering effects from congestion, cough, sore throat, - i started taking a supply of doxy i had but had to stop because the leg back and hip condition worsened - at the time i thought it was 4 yo doxy poisoning me, i dind't think it might be a herx - i was prescribed augmentin by the ENT and took it for the 10 days but the cultures had came back negative
i called the ENT nurse this AM and asked about whether a strep culture had been done and she said they culture for everything but now i realize when they had done the culture, i'd been taking a supply of doxy for about 5 days already, so maybe the culture came back negative because of the doxy?
the past couple of AM's the feeling that i won't be able to walk is accompanied by light sweats but nothing like the drenching sweats i had 10 years ago when i first had a Lyme crisis that incapacitated me
about 3 weeks ago feeling i was sliding back into Lyme symptomology, i went back on Dr Z's allicin protocol and I'm still taking his protocol and the only other things i've been taking regularly are ibuprofen and tramadol for the normal back ache but i've been taking more the past week because i had a root canaled molar extracted last week and the cavity is generating unusual pain - Dr Z's office just called and suggested i may be suffering a herx because it's been about 3 weeks since starting the protocol, but now i have in the back of my mind that it's strep - oy
what can i do about this feeling that i'm stiffening up and i'm going to be paralyzed? the interesting thing is that even tho i feel like i'm not going to be able to walk, the regular hip and lower back pain is much reduced (maybe due to the increased ibu and tramadol! duh)
i have my first apptmnt with an LLMD here in NYC in March - the one i had in Maine I haven't spoken to in a number of years - up until a couple of months ago i was better from Lyme and was just suffering from the back and hip pain so this rather new neurological development is disturbing
sorry for the rambling nature of this post,,,,once again i try to self treat and combine therapies which just ends up confusing things...

I'm wondering about that molar that was pulled also Dan. I was concerned when you posted that it was pulled and you were not given abx.
My fears for you were, if that tooth was surrounded by lets say some super bacteria like staph or strep and that was the real reason that molar was so unhappy.
Image a bunch of bacteria hanging out in a dead area like a root canal. Good hiding place because oxygen to that area was very poor if any. It was a weak area for them to wreck havoc.
Wonder if your immune system had that area surrounded and blocked off? But that dentist went in a opened that area up by pulling that tooth? Wonder if he sent the bad bacteria into your blood stream?
Dan, the reason I have experience with this is I went in to flu-like illness from he!!, 4 days after having a molar pulled. I call it the straw that broke the camels back.
Yes, I already had unknown early stages of lyme & co. No my molar was not a root canal. But that tooth had been worked on for 5 yrs by a dentist and a perio specialist to save that tooth and the bone lose that was happening in that quad.
After years of pain and $$$$, I went in to my dentist and insisted I want it pulled now. I can't take the pain anymore.
He pulled it but he was not happy with me. Too bad, my pain, my mouth, my issue...now you make it stop. He let me walk out of that office without giving me a rx for abx.
Was he too stupid to know that the cause of my pain was bacteria around that molar? NO, he knew the disease had eaten away at bone in that area.
So whatever was around that molar was released into my blood system within 4 days, my life, health and my being was changed.
I truly thought I was dying the day it all went down. I also truly believe that by the Grace of God, I was spared from death. I wanted to go to the hospital but I was 90 minutes from the city, in country town area with a hospital that I was afraid to go to because I knew that hospital as a death hospital.
It was 9 days later that I finally realized I'm in trouble here. Back home in the city I went to my HMO doctor at that time...I was put on abx then, but the damage was done. He called my symptoms Lyme Disease.
I didn't associate my pulled molar with my illness, that came years later that I tied that event in with the other events that happened. My blessing is that doctor is still my PCP doctor today. I call him my first angel.
Make sure your new LLMD knows about your root canal being pulled. Maybe the dentist that pulled your tooth needs to put you on an abx that will help with any bacteria that is still in that area or even spread out.

Is it harmful to take antibiotics after the expiration date?
Yes, expired antibiotics are dangerous! Here's a quote from Drugs.com about expired Doxycycline:
"Do not use; degradation products of drug are highly nephrotoxic"
Translation: Taking expired doxycycline can harm your kidneys.
While it is true that some drugs merely lose strength after their expiration date, many drugs (especially antibiotics!!) break down into harmful chemical products, similar to the way juice or wine can ferment if left too long.

Just got back from the ENT's office - he did another throat culture but saw signs of lingering infection from the nose, chest, throat thing that started about 5 weeks ago
so put me on Bactrim and Flagyll....
Dr. Z's office thinks my feeling of immobility is a herx due to it being the 3d week of allicin protocol but even if , if there signs of lingering upper respiratory infection, i'm going to be double dipping with the remedies....

So do all those abx cover all possible bacterial infections that surrounded that molar? I'm just not familiar with abx and who kills what anymore?
Did you tell ENT about the extraction last Monday?

Pam, Yes i did - he said that it used to be standard procedure for abx to be given to all with tooth extractions but now it's only given for people with heart issues? anyway i hope the bactrim and flagyll cover anything that might have been stirred up by the tooth extraction...these neurological symptoms were evidencing themselves before the extraction tho...just not as severely as since....
