My vision is normal except when I am looking at things at close distance ( about half a foot or less) and move my eyes.
If I focus at close distance and don't move my eyes there is no symptom. Also there is no symptom when moving my eyes when focusing at far distance.
The vision does a weird thing where it looks like everything "jiggles" "jitters" "shakes" and I even see little bit of black around the edges of my field of vision that flickers with the shake.
I've also noticed that if I look at illuminated objects like my smartphone (at close distance and move my eyes) the illuminated screen will appear to be jumping out of the edges of phone when I move my eyes as it shakes. I believe this is an illusion due to the illuminated screen having a greater visual persistence than the rest of the shaking image, so my brain locks more onto that.
I'm not going to go into the details in this first post on what may have caused this or what medical conditions I had at the time of onset.
I've talked to doctors and specialists of both ophthalmology, neurologist (even a neuro-opthalmologist) and ENT's and they don't know and all tests were normal.

Is this nystagmus?
It sounds like somerhing i studied about in school-i had a student with cp that had it
I do get it occasionally but havent figured out when or why
I have many other vision problems

If this is due to inflammatory Lyme symptoms, I've been able to stop all my eye symptoms by drinking mangosteen juice, an anti-inflammatory juice - you can find it in healthfood stores and online. I like the Mango-Xan version as it's the most tart.

I don't know if it is Nystagmus. The neurologist couldn't see it, only I can.
I have some neck/temple/jaw related pain and if I remember correctly my earliest symptoms of whatever were pain in the back of the neck at the bottom of the skull and the vision thing.

If it is nystagmus then the doctors as well as you will be able to see it. I have this occasion.

I have had nystagmus associated w/ chiari malformation and my ns could see it on exam. Things look jumpy. I don't have it anymore but if you do have it your doc should be able to see it.

I just looked up Arnold–Chiari malformation and that looks like some serious stuff.
Who could see it on what type of exam? Just curious.
Why don't you get it anymore? I'm not thinking I have this, but I want to understand. I only get it when focusing on things really close and moving my eyes. It has to be less than half a foot I think. Everything "jiggles" like jello.
