Very potent drug. Probably wipes out EVERYTHING. It's usually a drug of last resort.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. I searched this b/c I wanted to see if anyone was on it.

I had gone on it before I knew what was robbing my life was lyme. I had a surgery and demanded a bag of vanco to protect me from another MRSA infection. They gave me a full bag.

After the surgery they could not control my pain or my spasms. I'm thinking massive herx.

But the point is, after a few weeks, I got back to maybe 65% of who I used to be. I was walking and out of the wheel chair, taking my daughter to boston and shopping. I was living again.

Until I started going in the reverse.

I want to go back on vanco. I want to be that person again.

Oh, jenny, I hear you. All we want to do is to be a normal, functioning, contributing human being again! If not completely healthy, at least functioning and contributing for those dear to us!

I am still not doing real great myself, and fully know what it is like to be disconnected to the life of the "living"... and to not be able to do the things you used to do, especially with your children.

Hang in there. Hopefully your doc will give you vanco, or have the insight to know which med will help you the best.

I noticed this thread because my doc had sent in a script for vanco during one of my flares when it seemed like I needed an additional med.

I didn't take it because I had never heard of it being used for TBDs, and didn't feel comfortable enough using it since the pharmacist said it is a drug "of last resort."

Besides, I couldn't afford it as it was very expensive.

I, too, would like to know if anyone is taking Vanco; and, if so, how & why their doc is using it.
