Hi guys

I'm wondering if anyone here has had big hive like bumps....some which turn into lyme like rashes (big oval red areas) and itch. When scratched they ooze and crust over. ...and create dark scabs.

I've had this outbreak before on legs, then the next year more all over but not as severe...and now this year...its worse. Huge welts that hitch....some smaller ones too. Other times they went away within 3 weeks or so. I also feel stinging biting sensations in other areas but nothing seems to erupt in those areas.

However, before there were never lyme like rashes that spread out from these welts. I was bitten by a tick about 5 weeks ago. Took a couple weeks of doxy. Went to emergency room and the doc gave me three more weeks of doxy.

I've now been taking the doxy for almost two weeks but am still getting the hive like welts. The lyme like rashes are fading tho.I'm a bit nervous and am thinking...lyme, bartonella, hives, autoimmune , and or shingles? I don't have fibers that I know of so I am hoping its not morgellons. Any thoughts folks?

Couldn't it be an allergic reaction to the doxy?

Sounds awful! I think you need to see a Dr ASAP.

I've got something similar on my neck...triggered I think by using Copaiba essential oil (this oil is known to draw out issues and create hypersensitivity rashes)...but I quit using the oil 2 weeks ago and the rash is still going strong (and spreading).

I personally think it is Lyme-related, but my doctor says it may be cellulitis, tells me it better be improved by next appt. I've been putting antimicrobial essential oils on it, but it is still spreading. So we'll see what he says this week...

I don't think it is allergy to doxy because I wasn't taking doxy when it happened. Its crazy. Razzle...I hope you figure out what is up with your rash. I never used to have skin manifestations till about 3 years ago

might be eczema, psoriasis, or could even be ringworm. lots of conditions to look up.

try symptom checker too. and as last resort a dermo doc might be in order.

You can get hives from antibiotics, candida/yeast or from high histamine foods. Some foods also trigger mast cells. Some of them may not be high histamine.

Have you looked online to see if you found any Lyme rashes that look like yours?

You can have numerous bullseyes at one time.

Are you going into the sun?

Doxy and other drugs will make you break out into rashes if you're exposed to the sun.

I had rashes like what you describe from head to toe and it was drug interaction with the sun.

It can happen with ibuprofen too.

I broke out into hive rashes the two times I know of that I was infected with Lyme. My immune system was going nuts and it triggered a mast cell disorder when I was infected.

I now have pressure-induced urticaria. Never had that before Lyme.

So many skin problems now. I control it with herbs since I'm allergic to most antihistamines.

On my blog I have rash pictures in the right hand column. Most rashes were like the 3rd rash picture down...lots all over. And then some were like huge, similar to the 6th one down. The thing is they start as big swellings or hives and Lyme isn't supposed to do that, right? http://lymesentinel.blogspot.com/

I was thinking bartonella and lyme combined cause some of the rashes were more streaked.

Thankyou everyone for being so helpful with all your suggestions. I'm sure you must help so many people deal with this Russian Doll Cocktail of a disease syndrome.

Those look like the rashes I get. I was reinfected last August.

In March, I had a huge rash that started out on my side and spread to my stomach and back, then finally went away last week.

Then one popped out at another place.

I've also had several little rashes that combined into a huge rash as they grew. That was right after infection.

The rashes are lessening over time, but still very annoying (and itchy).

I have 13 co-infections. My IgE levels are 10 times above the the normal range.

The doc says my immune system is just attacking stuff like crazy and it will calm down as the infections go down.

This is what I've been experiencing.

By the way, Lyme can trigger mast cell problems, so I'd say yes, these rashes can be caused by Lyme.

Mast cell problems can cause terrible rashes.

Hive like rashes (dx'd as chronic hives) were one of my major symptoms before dx'd with Lyme for 20 + years. I would get them every 4 months or so and they would last 2 months. They were preceded by intense achiness (dx'd as fibromyalgia) Prednisone made them worse. Doxy made them disappear. When I first started treating with multiple abx I Herxed with rash outbreaks. Later in treatment I got smaller more distinct oval rashes that would come and go in a few days...

I was on abx for 18 months, knock on wood,I have not had a bad rash since (except when I reacted to a cortisone shot and then bactrim) it's hard to explain but I knew the difference.

I would say that in my case they were Lyme,or other bacteria related.
