I get asked all the time about what to do for a tick bite and em rash so just hoping for the latest guidelines/clarification.
Tick bite: 3 weeks antibiotics EM rash: 6 weeks
Is this correct? The 2 doxy caps as a single dose seems to be prevailing these days for tick bites. You have to think it must be doing something, otherwise everyone would have tick borne infections!
Anyway, can't locate the ILADs latest on this and want to make sure I am not giving people incorrect advice.

A friend just emailed me that had a tick bite last week and took the 2 doxy caps as a single dose.
Last night she had aches, severe chills, and profound fatigue. So much for the prophylactic dose being potentially effective!
The ticks have been horrendous this spring!

My LLMD treats me with 400mg.s' Doxy /day for 4 weeks plus cyst buster. This is for any and all new tick bites.

Ah have No IDEA how they came up with the Single dose theory (of a 'cycline family abx like "doxy") to kill off all the newly arrived Lyme spirochetes... as the 'ketes have no problem "hibernating"/ laying low/ changing form when hit with a "bacteriostatic" blood level of doxycycline.
There's No Way you get up to what's known as a bacteriocidal ("lysing") level of 12 or 14 ug/ml of doxycycline [blood serum level in "micrograms per milliliter"] with One freagin' 200mg dose! Maybe for a small dog... Maybe! idiots...

Yes, I would rather treat aggressively early on then sit and wait for it all to hit the fan later on!
