I still am unable to exercise but this symptom (which I had when I first came down sick more than a decade ago) has reared its ugly head up. I did start Mepron recently and didn't have this reaction before. Stiff as a board too and muscles feel like I've done a heavy work out (ha I can barely walk in my small apt).

Other than epsom salts, are there other things I can do for relief? What causes this when I haven't even exerted myself and why the suddenness of the sx? Thx

I get this too. My neuro diagnosed me with dystonia, which causes muscle spasms and contractions that can be constant and involuntary. I think he's absolutely right -- and it explains those mysterious night-time workouts that leave a certain muscle group sore as heck the next day! ( My neuro is lyme-friendly, btw)

It's definitely a lot worse when I'm flared up -- and has nearly disappeared during the times I've had remission from the TBDs.

Have you seen those foam rollers at the gym?

I bought one from Target (mine has hard bumps on it, too, but you may want smooth.)

It's awesome. May be a bit painful at first, but now I crave it everyday. Takes about 5 minutes.

I have same issue and for me it's Bartonella-like symptoms. The constant contraction/twitching in the muscles leads to tons of knots all over the body (I have 100's - they feel like bb's underneath the skin).

Bartonella treatment like a Rifampin tremendously helps and you knkow it's working when you get that sense of peace and calm all throughout your body.

I use peppermint tea as muscle relaxer.

There's also a product called Corydalis Plus that is supposed to help - I have a bottle but have yet to take 1.

Also, can you begin a very light exercise program?
Light hand weights, walking....
Need the muscle strength and circulation for recovery.

Thank you everyone! @surprise- which rollers do you mean? Haven't been to the gym in a decade and a half! [Frown] Yes, when able I definitely try to do some very light exercisees. Mepron was the only drug that lessened the pain somewhat where I could walk a little outside.

@canefan - I have those horrid lumps under the skin. Painful somewhat too, haven't tried bart tx yet (have heard from even MD's that it's really rough!). Yes, have experienced that 'peace and calmness' very rarely with this illness despite meditaion and breath work.

Really appreciate everyone's feedback, sorry y'll are also suffering too- feel better!

Hi tailfeathers, I don't go to the gym either, I walk my neighborhood hills (on the street) and work out with dumbbells at home to DVD's.

I'm going to try d-lactate free probiotics. Apparently d-lactic acid is the kind that's hard to eliminate from the body.

Try icing yourself down.

My PT told me he knows athletes that once stressed they have a cyro glove opt hat cools the whole body and then they can keep going and end up with no lactic acid.

He told me the story to tell me the power and affectiveness of icing.

I hate it because I hate cold but it sure does help a lot !!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! @surprise, thank you for that link. I have such horrific joint pain (still) that something non-weight bearing sounds great. I'm glad you can exercise, I am still pretty ill and can only make it to the car. Wimpy 2lb hand weights when I'm feeling up to it.

@VV & Springshowers, never heard of d-lactate probiotics, feel free to post any brands you have found, I'll have to look for some online myself. I have never heard of the cooling hats though they sound intriguing. I think my main problem is horrible fatigue - possibly from untreated Babesia. Makes it impossible to exercise. Thanks all!
