Thirty years in i get new sx

I have had ibs dx along time...also gall bladder, appendix and one ovsry out...

And i have been on ibuprofen over 30 yrs and omeprazole over 20 yrs...

And i have had many abdominal sx but never burning after eating-down in abdomen. Some burning higher up with reflux

So is it an ulcer?gluten?dairy?the ibu destroying my gut?

Which of them is clear burning as soon as you start to eat?

Im glad my living situation is improving so i csn work on diet

I get this. I was told it is acid. I had EGD and all that testing recently *again* and they still say same thing.

sometimes I take a few acid pills like tums. not sure if it helps.

I have not linked this sx to any one thing. I find no rhyme or reason to it.

maybe someone else has answer

The Ibuprofen can certainly cause problems in the stomach that perhaps are worsened by acid after meals.

Consider also the possibility I have written about in Hadlyme's 'Food poisoning or are we overly sensitive' thrread.......that the reflux may be caused by bile as well as acid.

I say this because you mention that you have had your gallbladder out, and for a proportion of people with a non-functioning (or removed!) gallbladder, excess bile causing diarrhoea/ other IBS symptoms such as urgency, also sometimes bile reflux, can develop either immediately after an op or several years down the road, making it difficult for you to see the connection.

Many medics are unaware of this problem, but some research is taking place to control excess bile. In the meantime, Welchol/Cholestyramine, the bile acid sequestrants sometimes used to help remove Lyme or mould toxins are the most prescribed 'bandaid' solution by those who do know of the problem.

I am trying Welchol myself at the moment, but am going very slowly, so it is too early to tell how effective it will be for the reflux part of the issue. For the IBS symptoms, it is a fine balance on Welchol to avoid constipation. In some countries, you can have a SeHCAT test to diagnose this, but I do not think it is available in USA.

Not good. I would worry about the ibuprofen. Cut back on anything spicy for awhile and perhaps buy some PepZinGI .. That has really helped me.

Don't know whether this pertains to your situation or not but I've become convinced that my complete recovery depends largely on my immune system which is largely in the gut. My intestines have bothered me for a long time with a mild burning type of sensation. If I ate, the sensation would stop. I finally figured out that the burning was hungry parasites.

What I did to deal with this was to stop eating very much for a few days. After that, when I felt intestinal discomfort, I drank a couple of ounces of George's aloe vera juice and ate some papaya. Note that aloe vera juice is not the same as the gel which is for topical use. I also variously would take a bit of coconut oil and/or honey because they are antibiotic.

My intestinal symptoms are now largely gone and I only started this a couple of weeks ago. Hope this helps.

Ty all

I hate the ibu...have for years...and i am constantly trying to cut down-but when i totally stop i am brd bound and that makes a whole new set of sx

Uk what you said is very interesting. I was hospitalized for ten days with whatturned out tobe ibs 26 yrs ago. I have the constipation kind. I have controled it with diet, mag and c for a long time

I was almost hospitalized with wechol a few yrs ago...on a very
Low dose. No way could i take as much as prescribed

I took questran yrs ago and did ok. I want to try it again. Ive been in a messed up living situation for awhile so it is hard to

coordinate the tricky drugs...but things are getting better with

thehouse so hopefully i can change some things

I was always surprisrd i didnt have any problems after gall bladder surg-it was about ten yrs ago

Lymenot-the eay you describe the burning sensation is exactly how it is...not bad like my reflux or low severe cramps like ibs

Buut with me it h as s just begun happening after eating foods that have not bothered me before

But it is intresting that the same sensation can be hungry parasites...maybe they dont like what i am eating!

Thank you all. Soon i hope i can live a healthier life

First things first. Getting rid of mold and rodents. Yuk.

For a long time I believed that my intestinal reactions must be due to what I was eating. I could never pin down which food was responsible because I would stop eating the suspected food but get the same reaction anyhow - then I would try and figure out which other food might be bothering me. It was like playing a shell game.

Can't say enough good about aloe vera juice.

The realization that these microbes are intelligent, perhaps a hive mind, really changed things for me. They know how to manipulate us and we need to be smarter than they are.

Regarding post-gallbladder removal IBS-type issues, they don't necessarily start straight after.

With me, I see looking back that things gradually changed, but a later food poisoning incident (years later) was then the trigger for it.

Ty again

I know i have parasites...ive been on reflux meds for 30 yrs

And the trigger for me could be huge amounts of stress for nine years culminating in cancer dx last year and needing two big surgeries while dealing with mold in new house(new to me)

Its not a surprise i am having tummy problems...its just a surprise to me it is a sx i have never had before

I love saurcraut...but i dont see mys er lf making it from scratch. Is there a place you can buy the right kind?

It will be pretty easy for me to go on salt c and pills like humaworm

Or buhner stuff

I dont have a doc that will prescribe anti-oarasitics and i just dont see myself walking in to tractor supply for ivermectin...all those years of worming the horses and telling the kids it would make them sick...the thoght of ingesting it has me gagging

But thank you

NSAIDs are very bad for your stomach lining.

Omeprazole 20 yrs - holy!

My sister took NSAIDs for along time. Her symptoms same as yours. Ended up with two untreatable ulcers

She now has half a stomach and lives off of TPN for food [Frown]

Please get an upper endoscopy

Nettles can treat the painful joints without destroying your stomach. Buhner recommends 1200mg/day for joint pain. It works...at least it does for me.

My Husband's joints are damaged from long-term hydrocortisone use (for his allergic disease)...MSM and Fish Oil have taken away the pain in his joints and enabled him to go hiking on weekends...he went on a 3-day backpacking trip 2 weeks ago, and came home with NO cramps, muscle pain, joint pain, stiffness...amazing!

Also, DGL and PepZinGI are excellent for repairing the stomach lining.

Ty
I cut my ibu in half years agi by addung fish oil

Then a year ago cut it in half again by adding curcumin

Maybe nettles will do the trick

I am over due for colonoscopy...they really shoyld do endo too i guess but omep does control sx so i dont think there is cancer there yet

Unrelated tests have shown hiatal hernia is griwing

I want to fix this with herbs...reflux surgery isnt that syccessful

I have needed a good gi doc for nine years. Last one told me to go gluten free after examining me for 7 min and two days later i had emergency appendectomy

He is now in charge of the biggest and only gi practice around

I need to travel over an hr to the next closest one and it is hard to get someone to go with me

Its almost a yr since last two surg...i know i need to set this up-ty

If it is bile causing the stomach pain and reflux (and maybe also the IBS symptoms), then Omeprazole may not really be helping, as it only suppresses acid. Welchol is beginning to help with the burning....at the moment have just started to get to two tablets before bedtime to sop up night reflux.

Regarding possible painkiller alternatives to Ibuprofen, there are good reviews for Thorne's Phytoprofen, a mix that includes Meriva , Boswellia and Picorhiza.

It is hard when you have to travel and when you don't have faith in the so-called expert, but, even if you do get the same guy, he may take you more seriously this time.

I meant to second Razzle's recommendations too. I take DGL before lunch and dinner, black raspberry powder in water first thing in the morning, PepzinGI after lunch and dinner; also Gaviscon Advance, aniseed, that you may be able to get in USA via Amazon. The UK version of this is stronger than standard Gaviscon and has no aluminium. You don't want the peppermint flavour, as mint is apparently encourages a loose lower oesophageal Sphincter.

On Fixyourgut.com, there is also a natural protocol fo help tighten the Lower Oesophageal Sphincter. Calcium citrate powder after eating is one thing on it. That site is worth looking at, as is the writer's kindle book available via his site on Amazon for very little.

LP,

I was on PPIs for 14 years and they caused polyps in my gut. I saw a hemotologist for an unrelated problem and he told me to quit the PPI as he sees many cancer patients whose stomach cancer was due to long term PPI use.

Long term PPI use can also cause atrophic gastritis which can then cause gastritis symptoms like burning in the gut.

I think you should have an endoscopy to rule out there is nothing seriously wrong with your gut first and if all is ok, then perhaps pursue the parasite option.

Without stomach acid, or low levels of stomach acid due to PPI use, parasites are more likely to be a possibility than someone who has normal levels of stomach acid.

I also use DGL for my gut and it is excellent. Vital Nutrients has a DGL powder that you mix with water. I also have heard that Gaviscon that you can get in the UK is excellent.

I read about it on an ENT's website who recommended it.

Yes get to a GOOD GI dr

I feel way better acid stomach and relux wise since I cut out gluten and sugar and semi have control over candidia :/

My sisters were just HUGE ulcers not cancer. But my sister took acid meds and more NSAIDs for acid discomfort and waited too long to see a GI. Her ulcers were un repairable:(

Don't wait get an endoscopy!

This is third day without ibu

I went 36 hrs without omeprazole but now seem to need one every 24 hrs

Thats half what i was taking

I want to get slippery elm and maybe aloe vera and dgl

Posted by ukcarry (Member # 18147) on :

You will probably find it easier to cut down the Omeprazole if you get those things quickly, to try to avoid a rebound effect.

I only took Omeprazole for 8 days because I was frightened of my system getting too accustomed to it and I found the Gaviscon Advance (Aniseed) useful when I stopped it . The DGL and slippery elm help to soothe and protect the linings too. I have a really gloopy cup of the slippery elm, sometimes with chamomile too, before bed, followed immediately by the Gaviscon Advance. The DGL I take 20 to 30 mins before lunch and dinner.

I also had Aloe Vera handy ( look for one without citric acid, which can really irritate), and have only used it when linngs are very irritated, as per John Brisson on the fixyourgut.com site. Too much AV may not help IBS-D tendency.

AbsorbAid powder (digestive enzymes) has been kind to the linings during this time too.

Good luck, Ipkayak and hope you see improvement soon.

Ty...i shouldnt have bragged about stopping the ibu...im waking up on day four and now i remember why i havent been able to stop the ibu before

Its my lower back. I have severe arthritis there. That is what makes me not be able to walk

Also last time i fell i pulled a hamstring and im pretty sure i fractured my pelvis again. It feels the same as last time. That area really hurts too

Im still going to try. Im not sure if i can get in the car to get to the health food store for supps

I need to get more than i have for inflammation too

What online supplement place is the fastest?

Oh boy. Too much pain. And guys are coming in two hours

Sometimes a hot showwr helps but i dont think i can step into batht tub

Oh boy. Send me strength not to put one in my mouth...im really gonna try

Well..double fish oil and curcumin and a heating pad are really helping...im ready for the guys and crashed down un my chair...i also lost skelaxin in this mess...when i find it i think it wull help without hurting too much

I know ibu and omep are really bad

Heres the guy. Gotta go

Uk...what go you mean gloopy cup...

And what does aloe vera taste like...

Just thinking about this is making me nautuous...help me

I spent a lot at the healthfood store but didnt get to drugstore

They didnt have georges alie...i got "lily of the desert" but havent opened it yet

When burning started i took two DGL BUT it didnt help. Next time i'll take it before i eat like im supposed to

In the past msm has never seemed to help and i am very allergic to sulfA...cant take bactrim

But msm is sulfUR...correct? It shouldnt bother me?

On a whim i bought zyflamend by nrw chapter...it just sounded like something that would help inflam since i stopped the ibu

And at the register the girl said she loves it...she takes it for inflammation from a head injury/concussion

I got nettl...tumeric ext cuz there wasnt curcumin, slippery elm in a pill, and i guess thats it. It should be enough for a month...i'll have to start slow so i know what helps

Thank you. But simeone tell me how to get aloe down and what is gloopy...

Hi Ipkayak, i meant that powdered slippery elm thickens up when you make tea out of it, so is 'gloopy' in texture, which helps it to be soothing and to coat your linings as it goes down.

DGL isn't really a quick fix, but is good over time as part of a protection strategy while your linings heal.

George's Aloe Vera tastes of very little, rather like water, but other ones I have had in the past can be quite strong, perhaps because of preservatives.

IF you have got an excess bile problem as the cause of your burning (and maybe IBS symptoms), you may need to try Cholestyramine or Welchol again, especially if you ramp up very slowly rather than leap in with a largish dose and get badly constipated. Some doctors say 3 tabs of Welchol twice daily, but that is a suggested maximum. Many people only take one per day.

I am still not up to whatever my final dose will be after 3 weeks. These are the most effective treatments for Bile Acid Malabsorption/ excess bile at present, although some companies are researching new treatments.

An endoscopy would , amongst other things, show whether you have bile pooling in your stomach, which is a good indication of bile reflux and /or Bile Acid Malabsorption.

Ty...i know i need endo and colonoscopy-im overdue

I read thru all the stuff i got and separated it into emergency-for wh err n i get bad stimach pain and then gi repair and joint repair

A few will be easy to start-i took msm this morning

Sllippery elm i have in capsules and it has to be taken away from other meds-so i will have to figure that out...it says 3 a day...do you just take what the bottle says?

I have other questiins uk...

Posted by ukcarry (Member # 18147) on :

I have made the slippery elm tea before now by opening the capsules (2 or 3) , adding hot water and whisking.

If you mean that you want to ask me questions, then go ahead. I am happy to answer anything that I can.

I am sure that you are right to start things a bit at a time: otherwise it is hard to know what is doing what.
