Hubby went to play golf on the East coast and they were giving away the small size bottles of the powder.
When he asked what it was for he was told to put it on his socks and rub on his legs to repel ticks.

I wonder if it contains sulphur?? My brother got a degree in forestry many years ago and they put sulphur (I think) on their legs every day before going out into tick-infested areas.

I don't think it would repel ticks and mosquitoes, but may make you not itch if they bite you. I'd want to know specifically "how" it repels ticks before relying on it.
I started using Coleman's Deet Free SkinSmart and it seemed to keep the bugs away. It had no fragrance and didn't irritate my skin (I use the small squirter, not the aerosol):
That scares me that people at that course may have been misinformed regarding gold bond repelling ticks.
I'm not saying that it doesn't work...just saying that in order to be marketed as such there needs to be tests and trials done to determine just how much it repels ticks.
Lyme and co have destroyed my life and altered my future so much, I would hate for someone else, thinking they were protected from ticks, get infected.
Especially if they had a choice between gold bond or a proven product and picked the gold bond.

Maybe ticks are somewhat repelled by the menthol? I sure wouldn't trust it.

I sent him with spray and he used that as well.
I just thought it was interesting.
All I have here right now is the medicated kind. The mosquitoes here are AWFUL so I may give that a try tonight - just to see.
I'm thinking there is probably something off putting about the smell.
