I have a friend whose husband has had two positive lyme tests by the Veteran's Administration and they still are not treating him until he gets a spinal tap and other requirements. Anyone have any experiences with the VA and Lyme? His doctor works at the VA. Her husband has had accidents before and hit his head and became slower but years later now with two positive lyme tests he is getting lost in his own neighborhood....which is very unlike him. They say he has a hole in his brain? Any thoughts or experiences?

they are awful there is a lyme support group for vets but not sure if they can help

my friend used them for regular care but then got an llmd for lyme

if you search VA on here others who are having problems will pop up

a hole in his brain...real professional...real helpful...its all in his head...no treatment required

also search on here about spinal tap...it is not recommended...worthless test that may debilitate you

They are stupid. Why would you need a spinal tap with two positive tests?? (so they can deny lyme when the test comes back negative)

A hole in the brain? What is that all about?

Suggestion: Find a real LLMD before he ends up completely debilitated.

My friend took her husband to the neurologist today because that is where her Veteran primary care doc sent them. I told her not to expect much. She just called and let me know that they are STILL not giving him any antibiotics even tho he has two positive blood tests.

He was in an accident when he was younger and his head was affected which made him a bit slower....BUT the wife says that all of a sudden he is getting lost in his own neighborhood and other incidents that are just not like him. He had bad knee issues two years ago and is still on meds for them. They think this may have been when the lyme hit him.

So...the plan of action is now cognitive behavioral therapy because they think he is depressed and they will see him again in JANUARY!!!!!!!!!! No antibiotics! Sounds like Tuskegee to me! I'm pissed!

The VA is a terrible place to get medical care for lyme or anything else.

My brother got an indeterminate ELISA and according to the VA, no further testing is necessary.

The VA has managed to destroy my brothers kidneys due to an error in meds. That is one of many serious errors they have made in his care in the past few years and from everything I've read and seen they will likely get worse before they get better.

I have 2 head injuries and they do seem to make the lyme worse...or the lyme makes them worse...hmmmm i bet there's a medical term for that...if there isnt there should be

The neuro i liked turned outvto be a dud too

Really...if they wantbhim to improve he has to tx the lyme. With an llmd or buhner or the other proticols

I have had the gettingblost thing many times and a small amount of tx made it go away

I hope they listen to you before it turns into seuzuress or dementia or something

Certain states may also be much worse if they are one of the "no lyme here (and no mention of lyme allowed)" states.

Daystar,

The VA is concerned if they diagnose it (admit it) they will end up having to pay disability later on down the line. For his health, I'd go to an outside doc that knows what they are doing and get treated, THEN deal with the VA.

Here is a link that may be of interest.

Good luck!
