I have deep ridges, or grooves, that run horizontally down from the moon to the tip. don't hurt just unsightly.

what causes these?

From the moon to the tip would be vertically. It can be a sign of zinc deficiency. I have them too.

I have them, could be an MTHFR gene mutation.

Can also be caused by cysts in the fingers under the skin that put pressure on the newly forming "nail".

I found the cause for me to be parasites. The infection was coming out from under the fingernail beds when I started a serious parasite cleanse. I had ridges on most of my nails.

I'm vertically challenged...well ok I'm getting horizontally challenged now too...

A new dr just told me and my husband what causes them..... if only I could rememebr what she said!

I will try and find info.
