Hi everyone. Sending love out to everyone working to recover from lyme. I am now in remission and planning a pregnancy. I understand that the standard plan is abx during pregnancy, but I do not want to subject my baby to abx! I am concerned about the possible negative effects on him. I want to use a naturopathic protocol and really believe it's possible. Interested to hear thoughts about this.

Thanks! Sending huge hugs to everyone on this page!!!

So glad to hear that you are in remission & what wonderful plans you have ahead.

The best approach to that would be with an ILADS educated LL ND so they are fully aware of all aspects of lyme / TBD and your history with all of this. They would also know all the suitable options, not just shoot in the dark.

Best of luck for a healthy future for you & your family.

When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods, because lyme is so very complex & unique, as are possible coinfections:

if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL ND (lyme literate naturopathic doctor) (or similar) who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -

- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present, and has completed the ILADS Physician Training Program (see: www.ilads.org )

so they really know all they can about the science of lyme . . . how lyme (& other TBD) act and what we can do about that in various ways.

Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.

When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Herbal Safety considerations & reference books; etc.

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;

knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches with links to articles, books, methods . . .

BODY WORK methods / links (and why anyone who works on your spine MUST be LL to the degree they at least know to never suddenly twist neck or spine. Never. Ever. And that we should never be advised to do neck / head / shoulder stands.)

Good luck on your pregnancy!

Let us know the herbal remedies for expectant mothers. That'll be such good info for those who can't do antibiotics.

Congrats and best of luck to you!

The only negative in pursuing a naturopathic/herbal avenue during pregnancy is that (from what I gather) many/most of these substances have not been tested to see if they are safe for use during pregnancy, unlike antibiotics.

Of course your LLMD/naturopath would know best.

I am urging my lyme ND to really push for research on natural remedies for pg post lyme. IF I got infected while pg, I would def do abx. But, post lyme, I have HUGE concerns about taking high abx that would go to the baby. Then, the baby's immune system would be destroyed before he even got going!

I am pretty sure I will be doing a natural protocol and avoiding the abx. I know some will think that is a risk, but I believe the greater risk is taking the abx.

Given that lyme is a pandemic, I also believe I have a greater chance at supporting a healthy baby by giving birth and passing on my lyme antibodies. He will have the antibodies via me!

btw, So far the natural protocol I am planning on following is:

Really good prenatal, minerals, feminessence maca balancing, ubiquonal, R Lipoic acid, mushroom immune support, Methyl B 12, Alamax, probiotics

I believe I will also be adding King chlorella.

I will def share the entire protocol as the IVF transfer gets near. I will be adopting an embryo which I am so excited about!

I am already bonded to the little bean!

love to you all!!

It is great you are in remission. If you eat well and take good care of yourself, I would not worry too much about getting sick again unless you are re-infected.

Maybe add methyl folate or folinic acid (not folic acid). I took brewer's yeast for B vitamins during both of my pregnancies but that was a long time ago.

That is really neat that you can adopt an embryo. My daughter has fertility issues and I will mention this to her.

You can also have the cord blood tested thru Igenex.

Please remember to stay on 'treatment' if you breastfeed.

Please be careful of vaccines on an infant who MAY possibly be carrying infections.

God Bless-

Thank you, Beaches, Surprise, and Nefferdun for the good wishes! [Smile] I think embryo adoption is such a beautiful choice. I'm excited! It's amazing just how much the already conceived children look like me, so my child will most likely really resemble me which warms my heart.

love to all of you!

I wouldn't take abx either, in your case.

If I were you, I would add Borrelia nosodes to your list, at least on the following dilutions:

C100, C200

You would need to take them just once a month (for example, month 1 you take 5 globules of C100, month 2 you take 5 globules of C200) and so on.

Just to be sure borrelia cysts remains dormant.

If your get bitten, I would then start with lower dilutions, like D5, D6, D12, D30. On a full borrelia treatment, I mean.

But as you are in remission, I suppose these C100 and C200 nosodes will cause you no reaction at all. They will just remind your body about borrelia (which you surely carry in cyst form for life, like all of us who got once infected), so that these cysts remain cysts and not activate.

That is what I would do. Homeopathic nosodes on these high dilutions have zero borrelia inside, you can be sure.

Supergirl,

Yes, I am concerned. Very concerned.

Are there any studies on any of the herbs or supplements you plan to use that have been approved for use on a pregnant woman or fetus?

Here are some studies on using and not using antibiotics if a Lyme patient considers getting, or is pregnant, with Lyme.
