My LLMD told me to find "Grapefruit see Extract" and take it as a "cyst buster". That is all. Will it affect my meds? Do I take it at different times? Is it a danger to take with my meds? Anything else I should know??? Thanks

Meds are:
Doxycycl
Rifampin
Cefuroxime

Excellent advice on Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). Many good LLMDs recommend this with good reason. It is one of the most important factors, by far, to have a "cyst" buster on board.

As you posted in another thread that you start 3 antibiotics tomorrow,

I would start GSE today, though, in the middle of a meal to see how your stomach does with it. I recall food being helpful to me with it although I don't recall much else about timing.

Hopefully, others will be along with details as to best brand, timing.

However, you might also call your LLMD's office and asking the staff what brands the doctor most often recommends, timing and dosage. Those in your area lyme support groups likely know what brands this doctor prefers, too.

You could also ask them about milk thistle or other liver support brand recommendations, too.

I suggest CAPSULE form but also liquid to dilute A LOT as a mouth rinse. The liquid / drops can be a little irritating to the esophagus, though, so that's why capsules worked better for me.

I took Nutribiotic and liked it because it came in drops. They taste horrible, but I was better able to control the dosage. I found it to be a really tough supplement, so I could start at 1 drop. I never did get up to full dosage.

You should ask your LLMD about interactions. Or your pharmacist. I believe I took it with my meds, but it's been a while so I don't remember.

I have a follow-up question on the same topic. I started taking GSE recently and noticed that I get really nauseated after taking it (almost to the point of throwing up). I recover pretty quickly from this (within 30-60 minutes). I have had the exact same reaction to Caprylic Acid when I took it in the past. I know Caprylic Acid kills candida and I think GSE does also. Is this nausea from candida die off?

fitnesskelly .. Perhaps your gut lining can't handle it. I know mine can't.

DO CHECK WITH DRUG INTERACTIONS when using GSE! Call your pharmacist!

Check with drug interaction checker online. It does mention that rifampin reduces the effect of doxycycline.

fitnesskelly,

Caprylic acid was brutal for me. I tried many times but had near violent reactions from this strong acid eating at my stomach lining.

I had to give up on GSE after a few tries, too, but it was not nearly as bad. The drops may work better for you but still take in the middle of a good meal so you have some food in your stomach.

There are other ways, though, and I strongly encourage you to NOT take anything that takes you to the point of such nausea and near vomiting. That is not going to be good for you in many other ways.

Always other methods to explore. A LL ND (naturopathic doctor) would be the best to know those.

I also have a question about this topic:

I am currently fighting candida and my LLMD wants me to take this:
https://www.emersonecologics.com/Products/EmersonMain/PID-GIM60.aspx

However, it has grapefruit seed extract in it and I'm on a low dose of zoloft & klonopin for panic.

I thought you couldn't consume grapefruit while taking these meds?

I would check with your LLMD.
