I have a return of coarse eyebrow hair. My follicles are very thick and the hair is coarse and breaks easily. My eyebrow hair does not grow in either. I used to have very thick eyebrows but now it's not growing in at all. Does anyone else have this? Or know what could be causing it?

For years on end I've had times- months at a time- when my hair grows quickly, then won't grow at all. Same with fingernails, weak and brittle or soft and tearing, then suddenly strong and fast growth.

Seems like the "no growth" times are twice as long as the spurts of growth. Can't determine what causes it, but thought you'd like to know you are not alone.

Here is an article listing some of the causes. Hope it helps.

James...

It may be a sign of thyroid issues, especially if the outer edges are thinning.

I had this, but it resolved when I became well.

Here's a resource:

Great links to articles guys! Thank you so much.

Tincup- Mine does this as well! I have times where the hair grows fine. The strange thing is that all my body hair becomes coarse when this occurs in addition to the thinning.

Phoiph- Interesting that the thyroid can cause this. I have always had "normal" thyroid tests but its not to say that something still can't be off. Mine had gotten better but now is back so maybe I'm having a relapse of some sort.

Does anyone know if lack of iodine can cause thyroid issues without actually having out of range thyroid tests?

I'm just wondering if since I switched to a Celtic Sea Salt that does not contain iodine, I could be deficient.
