For the last three weeks I've had heavy congestion with one side of my nose blocked absolutely shut and every now and then, my throat feels like it has gravel in it and then I start coughing with a really deep, wheezing cough that lifts me off my feet and won't stop.

I have a little high blood pressure so I can't take much in the way of decongestants according to the pharmacist.

I'm using Flonase once a day and finally went to the doctor because my sinuses were infected and am now taking Azithromycin for that. This is helping and I'm breathing steam with eucalyptus oil and using saline nose drops.

I'm really frustrated since I've never had allergies before and I know my immune system must be shot from years of Lyme and Co and wonder if I need to take something to strengthen my immune system. Ginseng? Rhodiola?

Has anyone heard of something like what I've described lasting so long and are there any remedies for mucous blockage like maybe you've got concrete in there? [dizzy]

I take quercitin two weeks before hayfever season starts Aug 15. I take it morning and night until first frost. It takes time to build up in the system, but works great once it does.

If I get the congestion or runny nose, I use a neti pot.

To get rid of the congestion, get a NeilMed sinus rinse bottle and use the saline packets that they sell to go with it.

You put a packet of the salt in the bottle, add distilled water, heat in microwave for 18 seconds, and squirt it up each nostril until the bottle is empty.

Do this at least once per day. The warm salt water loosens the congestion. The bottle is a squeeze bottle. The force of the squeeze works so much better than the neti pot.

My ENT told me to use this instead of the neti pot.

You can make your own salt instead of buying the packets. Mix 3 parts non-iodized salt with one part baking soda. Put 1/4 teaspoon in the bottle. Fill bottle to top line with the water.

Be prepared to see the guck flow out into the sink.

To strengthen the immune system, my lyme doc had me eat raw garlic or Kyolic and do weightlifting for 1 continuous hour every other day. This comes from the Burrascano Guidelines.

The weightlifting really works! It is unbelievable. Do light weights and many reps.

In addition, stop doing anything that weakens the immune system including: smoking, drinking alcohol, not resting, taking steroids, etc.

Flonase is a steroid nasal spray. When I used it years after getting rid of lyme, it lowered my immune system and I started catching every illness that was going around.

When I researched Flonase I was astonished at what I found.

I would stop it if I were you.

Here are a couple websites for you:

Nettie pot rinse at least 1x per day.

In addition to my antihistamine, I take a quercitan supplement plus bromelain.

No drugs necessary. The most efficient treatment, that works for almost everyone, is homeopathic dilutions of the pollen that is causing you the allergy.

Cost of treatment: zero

Time to do your medicine: about 5-10 minutes.

It's based on Dr. K's recipe, I've been using it for years. Not sure I still got it right in my head, as now I do it pretty intuitively...

Cotton ball, soak it with clean water (mineral or source water).
Wipe a 'clean' surface that contains pollen (I usually do it on the garden table).

It cannot be exactly 'clean'. I just wouldn't take samples from the ground, with dog poop and so on.... That's what I meant with 'clean'...

Squeeze the cotton ball on a spoon.

Take a bottle with a dropper, and take one drop of the pollen 'juice'. Drop it in the bottle, rinse the dropper with water.

Add 10 drops of clean mineral water in your bottle.
You sucuss (hit it against your palm) for 100 times. You got a D1 homeopathic nosode with pollen.

You take one drop from your D1 solution, toss away the rest. Put the drop back in your bottle without washing it, add 10 drops of water, succuss it 100 times, you got your D2 solution.

And so on, you go till you reach about D4. When the pollen reaction is strong, I would start with a D4. Just sniff some drops on your palms, and you can take the drops under your tongue.

Do it a couple of times a day, till you feel the allergic reaction lowers. You can smear on your eyes too.

You can do until a D6, mix them all in the same bottle, and continue the next day: sniffing, drops under the tongue, smearing on the eyes.

the more you dilute, it will end with the rest of symptoms (when they get weaker).

Good luck! Google how to make your own homeopathic dilutions, you will find detailed explanations!

Thank you all for these incredible suggestions. They're pure gold! After 6 days of Flonase (didn't realize it's a steroid😕) and 4 days of Azithromycin I'm a little better but not where I'd hoped to be.

Somewhere on here is a link that a recent virus is showing sx likeallergy and confusing docs

I was in bed with it for four weeks and now in 7th week i still cough and sometimes wheeze

I have hayfever allergy in fall and know my allergy sx and i did have them on and off thru my illness but it settled in lungs and my allergies never do that

I was taught by allergist first thing to do is barriers: glasses that curve around your eyes to keep pollen out, wear a hat, stay in

house or car esp in early morning when pollen is worse, use ac,
when you come in house or car

The new antihistamines never worked for me (claritan, zertec) but old ones do(chloratrymaton, teldrin)

As soon as sinus was involve d i used sudafed but i know youvcant. I also used xclear and showers to wash pollen off and drain sinus and help lungs

I used musinex if lungs. Started to get infected-rarely for me

At times i had to wear mask.or so much water would come out ofeyes i couldnt see

Good luck...i hope the fall isnt as bad as this spring

Being gluten-free and dairy-free can help. Dairy, especially, cause phlegm and congestion in a lot of people.

If it continues, you may need to make sure it's not in your maxillary sinus. It's very hard to get an infection out of there.

An MRI or CT might be needed.

I feel your pain. Going through the same thing here.

Mucinex and Advair for lungs.

Xlear for clearing nasal passages. (Does much more for me than nasal irrigation).

SyAllgen to try to tamp it all down, but may not be working...
