Does anyone know if Lyme can cause someone's jaw to actually move out of place? My jaws have never been perfectly aligned, but starting about 18 years ago they started getting worse. I don't mean painful, like TMJ or whatever they call it.
About 7 years ago I even had a consultation with an orthodontist who had all this fancy-shmancy equipment that showed exactly what my jaws were doing. My bite was off more than it ever was before, and my lower jaw had apparently receded, giving me a huge overbite.
I know, you all are picturing a beaver here,. but thank God, I don't look like that at all! lol When he said I had a huge overbite I thought the same thing and indignantly said, "My front teeth aren't too big!"
He explained that an overbite simply meant that the lower jaw was too far back, causing the front teeth to...well, be too far in front, I guess. He also said it was a good thing my front teeth were curved slightly in, otherwise I might indeed appear beaveresque, even without big teeth.
Well, this explained where my lower lip went! I noticed over the years it seemed to be getting thinner and couldn't figure out why -- it's because it was getting sucked away by the receding jaw. It also explained why my jaws pop when I chew or yawn. Amazing they don't hurt.
Ugh, I'm making myself out to be some deformed monster....honest, it takes an MRI or whatever he used to even see it! lol
But seriously -- if it were only a matter of being born with a slightly out of whack jaw, you'd think that would be it. But for it to wait thirty-some years and then start moving more to the side and back? Posted by Robin123 (Member # 9197) on :
YES!
You could experiment with various magnesiums to see if you can get your muscles to relax.
You could see a TMJ specialist and have a splint made.
You could find someone, probably a chiropractor, who knows the KST technique - you could contact the Koren Specific Technique org and ask if there's anyone in your area - they can put the jaw back in place gently, only it's a temporary fix - my chiro was always doing it for me on a weekly basis.

Yes, it can cause jaw problems. One of the first Lyme cases I ever saw, other than my own, the person was hospitalized with what was thought to be lock jaw.
I had severe jaw problems too. Spent many years in pain and/or with jaw dislocating. Still can't open wide without jaw dislocating.
When that happens I can't talk much, but I am sure you won't have that severe of a problem. But, just in case, start learning sign language.

I can tell you how to be a loud mouth in sign language: what you do is go to a concert that is signed, figure out some words, then go and practice them with a deaf person. They will start to laugh and let you know that you are shouting at them.
This happened to me - I did this at a concert, went to work the next day, a deaf woman was next to me, I thought I'd try my newfound signing out, and she started laughing until the tears fell down her cheeks!
Obviously, I was a bit concerned about what was going on and gave her a piece of paper and pencil to write to me. "Stop shouting," she wrote!
That's 'cause I had figured out some words in their REALLY big gestures made to be visible from a concert stage, but the same words are motioned in very small motions one-on-one!
So, you can still be a loud mouth...or would you be called a loud arm?

I have these issues, same as yours. It seems to be related to the muscles in my neck and jaw getting tight. It's really annoying and I'm not sure what causes it. I know it got really bad when I treated Babesia but I also have terrible yeast at that time. I know yeast causes my muscles to get tights. Sorry I couldn't be more help but I don't know the exact reason of why.

I had many jaw issues before tx and now they are almost non existent, so yes, I think it was tick disease related. I had tx for a few diseases, so not sure which one.

What? I don't remember saying that he said anything so mean! Besides, he talks much more than me. Sometimes I pray for quiet! lol Maybe you were thinking of the thread where I said when I was little, my mom sometimes called me Loudmouth Lime, even though believe it or not, I didn't talk much as a child.
But once in awhile I'd yell, hence the L.M.L. Waaaay back in the '60's, Pillsbury tried to compete with Kool-Aid, and named their flavors silly and in at least two cases, very politically incorrect names.
