I live in Ohio - we've had tons of rain this year (and a very mild summer...I seem to feel better in hot weather).

I did the VCS test for mold a few months back and passed. Is mold the only problem affected by damp weather? How else can I test for mold? Should I hire a professional to check my home for mold?

There isnt much discussion on here about mold. I found out i have mold illness pretty bad. I have been dealing with lyme 30 yrs. My mold/lyme specialist said when sge started txing her lyme patients for mold their lyme sx went away. There are two docs in country focusing on mold illness one is at.
Survivingmold.com. you can get info there and his books. Other i think is in mo...someone else will have his info. I thinkit is worth looking into if you are having troublevgettingvbetter from.lyme

(She is NOT A LLMD, however, she understands the kind of toxicity issues faced by many with lyme. She did not have lyme but overcame very serious MCS / MOLD induced illness. She spoke at the 2011 & 2012 annual ILADS conferences - and maybe some after that.)

The thing is that it may not be your house. The humid summer weather, itself, can cause problems.

You might want to read the book by Morton Walker here & also give Seagate OLE a good try, for a start, anyway. There is a great deal about mold / fungi in this book. A must read to really understand the nature of it.

Of course, if your house is overcome with some kind of mold, that would require other measures. And there are better tests for houses than for people, I think.

You say that you took "VCS test for mold a few months back and passed."

That can help indicate inflammation (which can be caused by many things) in a person but it's not fool-proof by any measure. I'm not sure any test on your body would really be worth it, though, as there are so many different kinds of molds / fungi that can be rough on us.

As for the house, see NAGY's site for detail on that. But, if you only notice it during humid weather, it may not be the house, just the air all around.

Yes, you should absolutely hire a professional to check your house for mold. If you have it, it could be hindering your recovery.

In the meantime, buy a monitor to check your humidity levels. Don't want it above 65% ongoing because that's when mold can grow.

The VCS test is a good start but it's not specific to mold, could also be the biotoxins from the Lyme.

You could also do the ERMI test in your house.

Back to the OLE, as a cool herb, it can also be a nice help to the body in that way during these hot days.

Id be very careful about any mold specialust you hire. Some are very expensive and some just dont get the job done but you dont know til after you pay them. Its important to learn about mold yourself and keep an eye on the remediators

It's a good point that it may not be my home. I lived in an apartment once (and old house split into 3 dwellings) and I suffered terrible headaches. I learned that the basement flooded terribly and suspected black mold. Once I moved, the headaches went away. I don't have that problem in my house.

The only funny thing about the weather is, I tend to feel some better when I go visit my mom in Florida. I still have some symptoms though - maybe the symptoms influenced by hot and humid weather.
