Causing inflammation: Gluten; Dairy

"Low" on gluten is not enough(sorry). Even a trace can cause inflammation in the body & brain for many months after ingestion, for those with genetic celiac . . . perhaps also for those who have other levels of sensitivity to gluten.

This is so very important. Even a trace matters.

Though not at all about lyme, this is one of the best reference resources on my bookshelf that has wonderful chapters, many graciously available through their website.

Old oils, oils past their prime can cause inflammation - inside the blood vessels, too. Best to avoid roasted nuts and buy raw and roast / toast at home just enough for a nice serving at that time.

Be sure to research where your oils all come from and how they've been treated - some are processed with chemicals and high heat. Ugh. Buy from as close to home as possible.

For instance, there are good organic olive oil producers in California, perhaps elsewhere in U.S. Seagate is just one. BioNaturae another.

This is interesting. The blood test identifies which foods cause problems for that person.

What bothers one person may not bother another.

That's for sure. I've heard of the LEAP test. Sounds pretty involved.

yes, my genetics proved a lot to me too, and

THE BLOOD TYPE DIET is a must for everyone. it really does work. look up your page and read on line about what causes your specific blood type to have inflammation, disease susceptibility, and other cool interesting facts!

Foods that give me inflamation and/or joint pain/issues:

corn
shellfish
wheat/gluten
tomatoes- especially if eaten raw
potatoes- if I eat them too often or more than 2 days in a row.

what helps:
avoiding the foods that do it. I still havent had time to really look into what helps, but when I avoid I am better. not great, but better as in my fingers work better , etc.

So for me, through intense trials over the years, dairy products dont cause any inflammation in me whatsoever. But anything with gluten, and any vegetable or seed oils are horrible. Cutting out sugar, gluten, and all oils made a huge differencr for me. Dairy products are my great healer.

Lisa.. you may want to consider avoiding all nightshades if tomatoes and potatoes cause pain for you.

peppers
eggplant
peanuts

As others have said, I would avoid the nightshades if you are having trouble with inflammation.

Foods that you CAN eat that HELP with inflammation are:

Pineapple
Cherries
Apples
Papaya
Almonds
Walnuts
Ginger
Spinach
Sweet Potatoes
Olive Oil

Actually there are quite a few lists out there of foods that actually help with inflammation. Just do a google search and you will get a lot of other ideas as well.

I read several books four years ago when really sick about Lyme and diet. There were six foods that I avoided that caused inflammation and they were:

dairy
MSG
artificial sweeteners
alcohol
sugar
gluten

I did not deprive myself of foods that I like but simply substituted better things.e. almond milk instead of dairy, gluten free pasta in place of pasta, etc

yes, lymetoo, they are on the NO list for blood type "o" which is what I am.

thanks.

I remember reading years ago - like 25- that some yogi said no one should eat night shades and I nearly hit the roof. how could this be?? I thought, but now see first hand what they do to me. not sure *everyone* should avoid them though. why would they be here on the earth if no one is supposed to eat them?

I tried the LEAP diet. Very restrictive and I worked with a dietitian. I lost way too much weight and went back to "everything in moderation." except no gluten, dairy, or processed foods.

yes, it is very hard to stay on a strict diet.

I find especially difficult since I have to cook and feed some kids and a husband.

my son would live on potato chips if I let him. and pizza. that is not an exaggeration.
