Does Cholestyramine work if you take only 1/2 a packet ONCE a day... or is this the kind of thing you have to take multiple times a day to have a constant amount in you for it to pull toxins out of tissues like the brain? And if its not constant then toxins aren't pulled out?

Thanks,

Why just once a day?

Still, yes. It will help -- IF this is something that agrees with you.

If just once a day due to tolerance issues, then, I'd say no and to find a different kind of liver support method.

It may be that it agrees with you but you don't want to pull out all good stuff with it. So, be sure to use other kinds of liver support (that can help decrease toxic load without stripping body of good things) so you are covered the rest of the day and night.

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.

If constipation (that cholestyramine often causes) is why you want to do it just once day, be sure magnesium is a kind that will help the colon.

Also be sure to have lots of vegetables, 9 servings a day, starting with breakfast, and also as snacks.

WILD Rice also helps the colon a great deal.

WATER - be sure to drink enough water, cholestyramine requires a lot - throughout the day even if only taken once. Water and vegetables help prevent colon blockage.

Thanks does fiber help (like eating a lot of fiber one)? I know vegetables are healthy but its just hard for me to find the time / desire to eat that many of them.

Thanks,

I don't really consider processed cereals and bars to be real food. If you eat those, you still need real food, such as vegetables and low sugar high antioxidants fruits (dark berries).

I would try to avoid stuff that comes in a package.

Also, many with lyme find that being gluten free helps tremendously in many ways. I've not checked the ingredients but my impression is that fiber one has wheat / barley or other gluten containing grains. The additives can also be harder on us.

Real food is what out bodies are designed for. Food such as before any grocery store ever popped up. From the earth to your body's cells.

You say it's hard for you to find the time to eat vegetables. Well, then, something's gotta give. If we don't have the time to rinse, prepare and enjoy vegetables, we are not going to have any kind of health that will provide what we need.

Vegetables are top priority. If we don't have time for them, we won't have endurance for life.

You also mention lacking desire to eat many vegetables. Perhaps a cooking class or looking to various ethnic cuisines for recipes, garden herb & spice combinations would help.

If we don't make time for that, our body cannot and will not make room for health. You might bring together friends / family to make this a group project.

Learning to cook, making food top priority is something that works for everyone. But if energy or time get in the way, we still must find someway to keep good real food in that top priority category. Real food does not come in packages.

And this "real food" is far, far - far - more important than any powders we swallow to help reduce toxins. Vegetables, fruits, good proteins, good fats are what are designed to do that for us, with the help of our digestive system and liver.

Produce: best if organic

Proteins: legumes - so many to consider

meats - free grazing, not raised in stockyards or industrial settings

fish: wild, not farmed (check for safe mercury lists)

eggs: from pastured hens

fats: extra virgin organic olive oil tops this list but do check on the source to be to certain it is a good one. A lot of oils out there are not what they say they are. We must trace where they come from, how grown, tended, manufactured, shipped, etc.

This does take some work - and maybe you have a mate who would be a partner in this project, or a friend circle to make it easier and more fun

As we determine which (if any) package food is really food for the life of our cells, the links here will help explain why I'm so loud about all this. The additives drive inflammation and irritation, for starters.

Excitotoxins; MSG; Aspartame; & "Natural" Flavors (that are not likely natural at all).

GMO foods that destroy the GI Tract; Gluten; Dairy.

I say forget all the snack bars that are supposed to be substitutes for the real deal but, instead, rely on artificial flavors, etc.. Go for the real deal.

Dark chocolate - somewhere around 80% or higher - can be very good in many ways and, after an adjustment time, the very low sugar will seem very sweet. There are also ways to go totally sugar free (and if candida is an issue, you can still manage to have cocoa in your life).

I cannot even stand to have one bit of anything below 80% anymore and one ounce can go a very long way. In addition to dark berries, tart cherries, nuts, veggie snacks, pureed bean dips, some avenues for treat time:

Lymeonade....Once a day should help clear toxins, but it's a constant battle with the gut being able to tolerate it.

You say "1/2 a packet ONCE a day"

I was having to do just 1/4 tsp. when I started it. So, however low you need to start, adjust to your needs.

As you say this is in a packet, be sure there are no additives such as aspartame or sucralose or dyes - or "natural flavors" as they are far from natural and can be toxic & too excitatory to the nervous system. Some brands contain additives.

Stevia would be okay, though.

Good luck with however you ease up to your best approach.

recently was taking just a third of a packet a day because I was worried about constipation and my system is so sensitive.

I had no problems with constipation at this level but noticed no relief from neuro and brain issues.

Ive tried a lot of charcoal too and that never seemed to clear anything out either.

Watching my carbs and not eating artificial sugars is the only thing that helps with the brain stuff.

keeping things moving has been crucial for me,when i get backed up i get toxic and for lack of better words, crazy.

The gi tract controls so much of how we feel physically, mentally and emotionally.

Absolutely. I wish more people understood that.

According to Dr. S, the originator of the protocol for biotoxins and mycotoxins, 1x per day will not do much to help. I have taken it once a day and it seemed to be useful. Best if you can take it more though.

If you can't take cholestryamine and you need a binder for toxins, liver support in general will not do the job. You must take a binder if you do not make enough of the right kind of antibodies to get rid of borrelia toxins and or some of the other toxins that Dr. S. outlines in his work.

I seem to have difficulty with most binders but continue to add them as I can. One doctor did some studies and found that the FIR sauna will pull some of the toxins into the urine.

Ive been thinking about Charcoal-magnesium combo.

Charcoal for binding and the mag to counter act the constipating properties of the charcoal.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've been on two packets a day now (my max). Definitely causes constipation but eating lots of fiber one seems to keep things moving.

Side note - I was poring out the powder and I accidentally breathed some into my nose? I'm not sure whats going to come of this but I'm guessing it can't be good.

Thanks,

Nothing yet but its only been a couple of days. My prefrontal cortex shut down and I lost working memory in November, so I'm not expecting improvement anytime soon.

My daughter was prescribed this (again) fitting in a binder in a kid is next impossible, when also need to take something to ward off constipation.
