Have been eating/drinking Kefir the past weeks.

Have been off Abx for months - not treating.

This week was Dx'd with a resp. infection and given Biaxin. I realize now that the pm dose is with my Kefir.
Is one supposed to space out the Kefir from Abx?
If yes, how long?
The Biaxin seems to be working anyway - taken with Kefir milk.
I have never taken Biaxin before - and seem to be tolerating it well. I was given the choice of 250 mg 2x/day or 500mg 2x/day. I chose the lower dose.
What does Biaxin hit as far as Lyme and Co?

Also I'm not quite understanding why the spacing of the probiotics and Abx. One is "pro life" and one is "anti life"?

Thanks.

Yes, antibiotics are "anti-life." They kill everything in other words. So, if you take your kefir with an antibiotic, the antibiotic kills the kefir and it does you no good.

To avoid this, take the kefir and other probiotics at least 2 hours after taking the antibiotic. This way, the antibiotic is already out of the stomach. It has killed everything in there--good and bad germs. Now, the kefir and probiotics can come along and put new, good flora back in the stomach and gut.

The next time you take an antibiotic, much of the flora is killed again. So, 2 hours later, follow the antibiotic with a probiotic again. That is the game we play while taking antibiotics.

Thanks TF - perfect explanation.

I was thinking that the Kefir made the Abx less effective.

Glad to know it's the other way around - and to take Kefir/probios hours after Abx.
