We have an LLMD in the area that is recommending Niacin for Lyme. Has anyone tried niacin? I started taking it for high cholesterol and I do notice a difference.

I also wonder if it is helping my mHBOT to work better. The flushing sensation is the blood vessels opening up. Maybe it helps to get more oxygen into the system .

Glad you are feeling a good difference. That is encouraging.

Just be careful not to go too high and have a form that is non-flushing. This can be very excitatory for some. I had an over the top reaction to it years ago, thought I would zoom to the moon and my face was as hot as the sun.

My skin was so prickly that I nearly took off all my clothes on the side of the highway where I had pulled over in desperation. I had the wrong form, wrong dose or something was clearly off kilter.

I would certainly not suggest a high dose of this, no matter what form. Be very cautious about any increases. Take it slowly.

I'm not so sure about that link you posted. Any site that talks about "your antibiotic dependency" is clearly biased and not coming from an educated place. That tone concerns me.

Go to the actual writings of the ILADS educated LLMDs about this for the most accurate detail. Some things can be lost in translation on the round about sites.

Thanks Keebler. I googled Niacin and Lyme and pulled this article up. So it's possible they are not one that is on "our side", they talk primarily about MRSA.

Our local LLMD (ILADS trained) is putting his patients on this, that's why I was wondering if anyone else is doing it.

I also was told that it needs to be the type of Niacin that causes a flush otherwise it won't work. At first the flush was very intense, but now it is very mild.

I hope you find the information you seek. It does seem to hold some promise of helping, I think. Sounds like you are in good hands with your doctor.

for others new to this:

Just a note about driving when first on niacin - for anyone starting this. Do not drive with your first dose.

I nearly had an accident when the flush kicked in. I was on a busy highway. Not a good place.

It's also just a good idea not to drive when first taking anything, though, until you know how it will work with your body.

Sedation is usually the reason for staying out from behind the wheel but if something is too stimulating that also can be dangerous and distracting.
