- The new law that allows a product to print on the label that is it gluten free is wrong, very wrong and a lot of people can suffer from that. To be clear: It is legal. It is still wrong, IMO.
The new law allows for SOME gluten in products that may be labeled GF. Don't fall for it. Don't let anyone who shops for you fall for it.
Even a trace, a mere trace can damage the brain and have lingering effects for up to six months after exposure not just in those with celiac but also in some who have non-celiac gluten issues.
Trust me on this. I do have the links but no energy to sort them out.
My hands and brain just can't elaborate or find links for you now but just want to get this word out.
It must be CERTIFIED GF by an independent 3rd party with an official certified crest.
Also Google: HIDDEN SOURCES OF GLUTEN and read several of the lists, some contain items that others don't. Be mindful of anything on any of the lists.
Lip balm, lipstick . . . cough drops matter, too.
If something you use is not CERTIFIED GF, go to their website for clarification. Some are in the process of new labels. For instance:
BADGER LIP BALMS are all GF - see their website
EQUAL EXCHANGE (the PAMAMA EXTRA DARK 80% may work for some of us) is GF but their labels do not yet say so.
PIZZA - if in a restaurant where they make regular pizza, there is no such thing as a GF pizza - unless coming out of a different kitchen, dedicated GF with separate ventilation system and cooks not covered in flour from the regular kitchen.
Same with DELI FOODS. Shared equipment and air matter. -

- I'm a bit slow on the "news" as it's not all that new, I guess. I just really rarely buy anything in a package and with 4 different people giving me some Christmas gifts "extras" that included a few food items, I had stuff that the box SAID was GF but actually even had wheat in the ingredient list.
I have been "banned" from grocery stores for years (long story but my rocket bolt reaction to sound even through ear plugs and muffs has something to do with that - I was bad business flopping around on the floor blocking the check out lane - more than once) . . . I have a friend shop but it's mostly produce and meat / fish so I've just not been faced with sorting labels.
On the website for one of the so-called GF items in one of my Christmas stocking, they boast about how now they can offer GF foods because the laws worked in their favor. Uh?
