We will soon be making an Appt. to go back to the Oral Surgeon. I got proper DX from the Dentist the Oral Surgeon recommended,and will have to go back,to the Oral Surgeon and have it pulled.
It is to close to the nerve where the hole is from the filling break cavity, and we cannot afford to get it filled. Dentist said that one cannot stay in. It isn't infected,and we don't want it infected.
Another one will be filled later on,but this one is getting painful,and there is concern of it becoming infected.
Of course Medicaid will not pay for anything but yanking the problem teeth.
Will let y'all know,when we have a surgery date for the tooth. I was hoping to avoid this.I do know I wont be able to have food and drink for a certain amount of time.
Any tho'ts on what else I can do, to make this a bit easier? Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Silverwolfi, I;ve been in this boat so many times, don't even want to talk about it...
We can't get a hold of anyone 'til next week,Monday,so I am trying be gentle w/ the tooth,and not think to much about it. trying not to worry.

I had a tooth pulled a year or so ago and it was a breeze. Only took Tylenol for pain for a couple of days. I expected it to be so much worse; so don't worry. It will probably be easier than you think.

Rather than giving up the tooth, maybe there's a dental school within traveling distance from you. The students, residents and professors are all usually available for appointments at reduced rates. A professor checks the students work all along.
Then if you need a root canal to save the tooth you can get one. There is nothing better for chewing your food than your real tooth. To find the name of a dental school, you can call your Dental Board at your State Capitol.
I have teeth that have had root canals and have no trouble with them. I'm treating myself for Lyme and Co by following the herbs and homeopathics listed in the Buhner protocol.

most trouble i had was with the nitrous since i have mcs. I did fine with the pain, just taking advil. Never replaced the tooth, too afraid I'd react to it.

Tulips - before Silver had medicaid we did the song and dance recital for the local dental school. They would not release the x-rays or even give us a report on what the instructor felt was needed work.
Also the instructor laughed off the idea of not wanting her students having to deal with Silver's death in one of their chairs.
She claimed Silver had too many issues for any of her students to begin any work.
It was embarrassing and heart wrenching to 1. Spend non-refundable $$ up front for the exam 2. To see the look on the student's face as this woman laughed about death. 3. Not getting any kind of report or x-rays. 4. Being turned away because there were "too many problems".
Now it is one issue at a time and I would not recommend the dental school to anyone in Las Vegas.

Thanks each one for the input. Suthern' I am hoping that it will go smoothly, I had to have the one next to it removed many years back,and it was no problem.
Dogmom', I cannot do the laughing gas either, the one time I had it, I couldn't breath,and as I have a damaged lung I wont be having it. My other tooth went really smoothly those years back.
Tulips, I do hope you'll read,TxCoord's reply [he is my husband], we will never go back to the dental school here in Vegas. It was the most unprofessional evaluation I've ever been to.
No one expects to be ridiculed in front of the students,workers etc. This instructor was cracking jokes at my expense, and normally I have a good sense of humor. But not when someone tells me...
"Yeah you got cracked tooth...[laugh- sputter- laugh some more not me,not the student,the instructor]and ho ho haha your crackin' up... You have so many problems I wont let my students work on you. I don't want them to have to go thru grief counseling if you die." That's part of what the instructor said.
We never mentioned Lyme disease, we were asked in the paper work to mention medical issues,like the Diabetes. Gluten Intolerance,and so on. They also wanted info' on prescriptions,and supplements. All of the Doctors and Dentists I've seen now ask this.
The insolent instructor for the dental school is the only one who got odd about it. We were shocked,as was the second year student who examined me. This was Aug. of 2015.
Just after that examination,I finally got the Medicaid. They don't pay for much, but at least TxC' isn't being fined.
So my Dentist and Oral Surgeon,are doing the best they can for us. I was told at the 'school'. That I had 7-seven- teeth that were serious issues problems,and that I had bruxism.
Strange, My Dentist and the Oral Surgeon,only found three teeth,with any serious issues,and no mention of grinding/bruxism.
While I wish we could save the tooth, the Oral Surgeon, recommended me to this dentist,to form a plan,and go from there.
Will update as soon as we know when the tooth is to come out. I am praying it goes well.

Hope it goes well! Do not swish water (or anything) in your mouth after the tooth is extracted. The "plug" needs to heal in the cavity where the tooth used to be. If you swish - the plug can be dislodged & it can cause bleeding & it won't heal properly.
A root canal is a big decision. Alot of times they harbor infection & aren't healthy. Sometimes it's better to have the tooth removed.
I don't know why your tooth needs to be removed. Are you sure it's essential? I had a dead tooth in my mouth for over 20 years. It had a gray spot under it on the Xray but it didn't hurt. The dentist said it was dead & should come out. It didn't really make much of a difference after it was removed.
I didn't feel any different except for the empty space. I kind of wish I just left it there. I don't think it was infected. It's just that you don't know... I thought I might feel better after it was removed but it didn't make any difference that I could tell.
I also had a cavity replaced & she drilled too close to the root. She said the only thing I could do if I don't want a root canal is to pull it. It hurt alot but I've been putting cotton compresses with oil of oregano, oil of clove & goldenseal on it. I think it's healing... It's been since August. I thought I was going to have to pull it.
Myhrr is also very good for tooth issues.
Sometimes, these doctors can be real idiots. Don't let them get to you! I can't believe they were making fun of you. I would have just got out of the chair & walked out.
They don't seem to believe that mercury is toxic... Is that idiotic or what? I read somewhere that dentists have a very high suicide rate. Ya think it's connected???

It was the Dental School Instructor who was such an idiot,and so unprofessional,last August.And we did walk out, we thanked the student, and the instructor said we could not have a copy of the x-ray.
We were not even given a copy of the report,the young student who seemed as shocked as we were,walked us out.
The Oral Surgeon and the Dentist [both of whom accept Medicaid],assigned to me,so far have been very kind and caring.
The dentist said,we cannot afford to leave the tooth in,as the 'Caries are into the pulp too near the nerve.'. In other words,if left untreated,at this stage it will soon be infected,as well as being more painful than it already is. That is to serious a chance to take.
The other two teeth,one can be filled,it isn't so bad ,not deep into the pulp and heading for the nerve. We are working out a plan w/ the dental clinic, but I may still lose a second tooth.
It'll depend on our finances,we are on a super tight budget.And we cannot afford much. I don't want to be living under a bridge somewhere. And yes I am serious.

Thanks for the info',about not swishing liquids around the tooth.
years back my mom,had a tooth pulled and it went dry socket. It was really awful,she was in bed in tears for a few days. And she had a reaction to the pain meds...I've never forgotten it. Momma was loving and patient,and I hated to see her in so much pain.

It's good you got a second opinion after the school experience. You have to be really careful with dentists. I've had some bad ones who said I had all these issues but it turned out that they just wanted to make some money off of me.
They were "holistic" dentists, too. I think some of the "holistic" ones can be worse than regular dentists.

I'll be seeing the Oral Surgeon for another consult on the 23rd. He then will try to get the authorization from Medicaid to pull the tooth. So some point after March 23rd it should get pulled and be over with.
