Any methylation experts who can answer a quick question?
I had been planning to add in a methylation protocol but then I just did the NutrEval test and my folic acid and cobalamin both came back normal.
Is it possible that I can still have methylation issues and need supplements? I thought I recalled reading something a while back about how levels can appear normal but the body isn't able to use it properly, but now I can't find that info. Or maybe I'm imagining it.
Can someone shed light on this?

I heard that cyanocobalamin has to be comverted ,methl b is already in the form it needs to be same for folic acid ...where as 5-methltetrahydrofolate does nont have to be coverted either....i did myers and could not process...levels were thru the roof...

I have never been tested for MTHFR, I just assume I have methylation issue. I took some 5-MTHF first to see my reaction, I actually felt good, so I keep taking them, and later changed to some B complex in methylated forms.
I don't know if this will cause harm to me, if I don't really have methylation problem?
Btw, I have bad multiple chemical sensitivity, mold sensitivity, depression,..

Yes, serum levels of B12 can be normal or even high, but the labwork does not differentiate between active and inactive B12. My serum B12 is always above the range, yet my symptoms and high urine methyl malonic acid indicated B12 deficiency. B12's pathway in the body is quite complex.
I have been using B12 oils from Australia topically to treat this. The oils come in several forms of B12 and mine is the methyl/adenosylcobalamin. I am waiting for the results of a second Genova ONE test to see f the picture has changed since last March, but I do feel that the oils are helping me. If you are interested, I could give you the contact email for the formulator of the oils, who is extremely knowledgeable and generous with his time. He would probably offer to look at your Nutreval and see what he thinks.

How was your homocysteine? If that's slightly high (like 9, I think), that can indicate methylation issues.

Sure, I would love the contact info for the formulator of the oils. It's so hard to find practitioners who really get this stuff.
My methylmalonic acid is ok. But the 5 OH indoleacetic Acid and \ homogentisic acid are not. I just looked and it looks like the first one is associated with low B6. Thanks for suggesting the link to the acids.
Good question on the homocysteine. I don't think it was tested this time. But cysteine is ok. Think it was tested a while back and came out ok, will have to dig that up.

It can be considered high but still in range. Mine was 9.8 ... in range ... but I believe anything over 9 indicates a methylation issue. I wish I could remember where I read that. It was one of the sites I plugged my 23andme numbers in.

yes, it is a VERY complex system . I went to a genetic expert person . I make no gaba on my own, but if I were to take a gaba pill (over time) would be very harmful to me.
i learned so much, but it is so complex for sure. I wouldn't fool around with any of it. I would get in touch with someone that knows for sure.
