Hi,

Can anyone advise me on what I can do about this? I have a quasi-diagnosis of Lyme, maybe Babesia, maybe parasites. Have for years. I'm doing a parasite rotation, and each time I try Alinia it causes my skin to feel hot, causes me to have hot flashes, and even my pee comes out hot -- actually feels hot in temp, not burning like a UTI.

I'd not think this a herx, as it the symptoms start immediately (the same day) after starting the med. ...and they take a very long time (days/weeks/never) to dissipate, even after stopping the med. Is it a herx, though? Babesia?

I'm wondering if perhaps Ainia causes a drop in some nutrient. (I seem to have found that other Meds cause me to go low in magnesium, but taking magnesium doesn't help this, and I'm wondering if there's some other imbalance the Aliniaa causes that I can remedy with supplements.). I'd like to keep taking the Alinia, but I don't think I'll be able to unless I can modulate these symptoms.

Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Nancy

Alinia at baby doses was hard for me ...it may work aginst viruses too...is your parasitical infection systemic ?. .have you id them ...some klinghard trained girls told be not to take alinia if if i have flukes cuz it just chases em around.dr k found out with trial and error ?!

iv mag choride is the only thing that helped burning in hands ..and bart treatment ...which i hear alinia hits also

Thank you so much for your response.

Regarding your question, "Is your parasitical infection systemic?:
According to testing I have *nothing* -- no Lyme, no parasites, no coinfections, no nothing (actually I've had "indications" of Lyme and coinfections on tests, but nothing *ever* slam-dunk)...but antibiotics and antiparasitics have all helped me tremendously...for a while, each different one, 'til it seems to lose effectiveness. I've strung this along for years going from one protocol to the next, finding docs that would believe in the idea that I have Lyme enough to treat me but running them dry of ideas. Have seen some true Lyme specialists (not Dr. K) and pretty much ran them (and most of our financial reserve) dry, too. So, I'm kindof floundering with a local *very good* doc who demonstrates wonderful respect and is very sharp but is not way deep with Lyme experience.

Thank you for bearing with my violins. :-)

Do you take mag or other minerals when you take alinia?

Interesting that you say that. I have discovered by trial and error that various antibiotics and antiparasitics have evidently had the effect of making my magnesium levels go low. (I would start to feel horrible after being on a round of something and finally discovered taking magnesium with my Meds helps.). So, yes, I was taking magnesium at the same time as the Alinia -- probably around 400 mg/day.

Why do you ask?

I have proto (FL1953), so minerals, mag, etc actually give me the symptoms you posted above (skin hot, hot flashes), so taking it with alinia would cause those symptoms for me. Minerals feed the bug. Alinia is also given for proto so you might check out the symptoms for proto.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I *think* Alinia gave me the hot symptoms (last time I took it a while back) before I started taking magnesium. Can you tell me -- what's Proto, and how is that related to Magnesium? ...just through the idea that magnesium feeds Proto?
I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts about magnesium's feeding the bug. I was aware of that, but I was feeling so extremely awful lately due, evidently, to lack of magnesium that I ended up feeling like I'd rather feed myself and feed the bug, too, then avoid feeding the bug and starve myself of my very life in the process. I'd love to hear anyone's savvy way of navigating that issue -- off getting magnesium to yourself with minimal benefit, if possible, to unsavory organisms. Would a topical magnesium (like magnesium sulfate cream) feed the bug like capsules taken orally would?
Thanks.

It's possible that alinia is affecting your gut so much that it's amplifying babs or proto or something or maybe causing leaky gut. The gut is a huge issue. Everything revolves around the gut.

Are you taking any s. boullardi? I take it at the same time I take alinia. That may solve your issue. It could just be yeast related.

No, but I think I have some s. Boullardi on hand. Can you elaborate on how Alinia's effect on my gut could amplify babs or proto? I get the relationship between bacteria and yeast -- bacteria down/yeast up, but I'm not familiar with the relationship between antiparasitics and other things. Are there other specific "ratio"-type relationships (similar to bacteria and yeast) that I should be aware of? ...and thank you so much for your time.

I don't really know why, but you're getting symptoms that sound like babs or possibly proto when you take alinia. So the thing to do is to keep a journal on what you take those days. Even what you eat. Then your lyme doc will have something to work with.

Until then, you don't know. It takes a while to figure out what a person has, what affects it, what feeds it, what works, what doesn't work. There is no easy answer. Keeping a journal is the best thing you can do.

Sometimes I look back six mos or even a year later, and go, oh yeah, so that's probably what happened.

Also, if the only abx you're taking is alinia, you might want to help your gut out. The hot pee sensation could mean it's making your body more acidic, so you might try adding in more greens, or kimchi to help your body. I think the s.boullardi will help.

Alinia helped kill giardia for me as it did i was sneezy to everything ...my gut will need some major repair .i understand it can take years .i dont know how long i have had it ... the burny stuff for me was definatly nerves and i feel may be bart related ...which alinia may hit too.

I am also interested in solutions to this. I am on alinia right now.

I am taking between 600-800mg Mg and have been since ~2010 when a neurologist thought they might help with headaches. So for me, the flushing is definitely from Alinia, and it also happens within an hour of taking the pills.

I basically just sit and sweat - if anyone has any solutions, please let me know!

(I have Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella, and based on my reaction to Dr. K's parasite protocol - I have/had a lot of parasites.)

I think for me Alinia caused sweating because of Babesia. You might try a stronger Babesia medication like Mepron/Zithromax. I don't think Alinia was strong enough to kill it, just stir it up.
