I'm just curious. Went to a Functional Medicine Chiropractor who did muscle testing and blood work on me back in March or April.

Treated me with herbals, adjustments, dietary changes, supplements, special water, color therapy, EFT tapping and other methods based on test results.

I don't know how he missed that a HUGE problem for me was my very high histamine level.

Now, some of the treatment did help....adjustments, EFT tapping and some of the dietary changes.

But my overall health wasn't improving very much.

Since seeing an Allergist and starting treatment for MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) my health is improving.

I just don't understand how MCAS was missed completely.

Does anyone know why this happened? I spent $3,000-$4,000 (ran out out money) for the FM Chiropractor and about $500 for the tests and treatment from the Allergist.

Anyone have any ideas?

[confused]

They probably never even heard of it. I pretty much diagnosed myself, then found the right doctor to prove it.

I know one thing... It's way more common than most think!!

Muscle testing only answers questions that are asked. So certainly that is one reason why it would have been missed, as Lymetoo says.

There are also varying approaches and methods for this type of testing, and they rely on what the person is like in the moment, so those also contribute to variability of results.

Thanks for responses! Makes sense about not asking the right questions. My labs were shockingly abnormal and I was pretty malnourished. I just never knew why.

Course now I know MCAS can cause malabsorption issues.

Wonder if I'd test positive via muscle testing for my MCAS meds?

MCAS has to to with allergies, if my understanding is right.

Well, allergies mess with the ANS and makes the muscle tests go wrong...

It is very hard to test for allergies, specially when you are EXTREMELY allergic to something.

I've been doing muscle tests for at least 10 years, and the only time I CANNOT test, is when someone is VERY allergic to something.

I can't bring the person's ANS to relax when that is actually happening (it's as though the person goes closer to an anaphylactic shock), so I can't know what's going on.

When the person is very allergic to something, her whole nervous system goes bananas.

that is my own experience...

Not enough is known about MCAS. Isn't it a histamine reaction to certain foods and mal absorption problem (Lymetoo)? Can you summarize it? I've seen Lymetoo's link before but it's huge and I didn't grasp all of it. Sorry, I don't know enough about it. Maybe the question should be asked in several parts.

If your FMC tested asking about certain foods and asked if they caused a histamine reaction then it might have picked it up but then only at that time (right after you ate something that caused it). Or, will chocolate make you feel worse? If yes, would it cause a histamine response or something else?

Maybe your FMC should ask if you eat these foods will it cause a histamine response.

If you ate something that caused a histamine response right then muscle testing might have picked it up. Then again, not enough is known about mast cell. It could be a combination of things are triggered or affected as well.

If mcas were an energy being like lyme or a bug or parasite, then testing would have picked it up had it been active. But to my understanding, it's a reaction, not a live bug.

I've had an ART practitioner miss a major co infection before too. Kinesiology is a tool, and an awesome one, but not 100%. Still a thousand times better than the current system IMO.

Akinwlf, what meds did your doc put you on?

What Brussels said makes a lot of sense.. Yes, part of it is the nervous system gone awry.

Here are better explanations in a briefer form:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/3/36299?#000000

It's basically that our mast cells are activated by just about anything and everything, which makes the cells throw off chemicals of all sorts.

AK--sometimes muscle testing works and sometimes it doesn't. I find that the places I go that sell the supplements have muscle testing that leads to buying their supplements, but maybe I am just cynical.

Thanks again for all the responses!

My FMC delved into a lot of emotional issues which affected certain organs. These he released. One issue in particular he couldn't help with. I worked on it myself using the EFT technique (unpleasant) and was surprised to resolve it but it took about an hour of hard work.

The meds I'm currently taking for MCAS are Levocetirizine 5 mg in the p.m., Pepcid AC 20 mg. 2 x a day, Allegra Allergy 180mg in the a.m. I've added Source Naturals Activated Quercetin 3 x a day, Bacopa Monnieri 2 a day and a large pinch of Stinging Nettle loose herb brewed for 20 minutes in 1 cup of hot water drunk as a tea, since I wasn't prescribed Cromolyn Sodium.

Thanks aklnwolf!

Awesome you cleared emotional issues! It's amazing how that stuff affects the body and people don't even know it. I'm still surprised by it whenever something comes up with me.

I agree with Hiker too, sometimes the stuff practitioners sell shows positive in their office, but once I get it home it's a "no."

Are you feeling better on everything you're taking? Did you try them one at a time to see what makes you feel best? Does this mean you can eat those foods that cause high histamine again?

Haven't done any EFT in awhile but it really helped.

I'm feeling better on my meds and natural stuff. I was on just a couple meds before my tests came back from quest and the mayo. Afterwards Allegra was added.

Have retest coming up in a couple months so more could be added...will see.

I pretty much eat everything but try to watch gluten and dairy. I still eat them if unavoidable. Trying different modalities to improve my health. Heard exercise helps so started working out 3 times a week.

Really need to clean up my diet but hard during holidays.
