Hello everyone!

I'm posting today on behalf of my boyfriend who also suffers from Lyme. Our doctor has decided to put him on mino 100mg twice a day and Flagyl 250mg 3 times a week every other week while he continues his second month of doxy 400mg

I have no experience with Flagyl or mino so we are in need of some advice, what to look out for, and any tips to make this process slightly smoother.

He was warned that this combo is going to be very rough so anything will help! Thank you!

Minocycline can cause some unpleasant nervous system side effects. Lots of dizziness, unsteadiness, and just weird feeling. You get those because it's penetrating into the brain so well. He might need to ease into that one to get used to it.

Flagyl can cause neuropathy, so watch out for nerve pain on that one. If he gets that he might need to take b12 or maybe even stop the flagyl. And of course watch out for severe herxing.

They don't usually put doxy and mino together, but I have seen people on both of them a time or two.

Good luck to him with this new combo!

thank you so much!

Would you happen to know if these cause nausea or are really harsh on your stomach? His already having a tough time with doxy.

Stefi- Flagyl was extremely rough on my stomach, but it was prescribed by a well-meaning regular doc, and she didn't give me any of the support, like probiotics, liver support, etc. And it was 500MG per day - no easing in.

If it is done right, I am sure it will be tolerated better. It also did a number on me, other than stomach issues: made me herx big time, so I actually want to try it again at end of my treatment to make sure everything's gone!! Good luck to your bf

Mino didn't cause me any nausea. Flagyl actually helped my gut (surprisingly!), so everyone's different with those types of things. (:

Flagyl needs to be ramped up .. go slowly!

Also, he has to stay FAR AWAY from any alcohol.. even alcohol that might be in mouthwash, aftershave or herbal tinctures.

If nerve pain develops, stop the med and call the LLMD!!!

Mino can cause a lot of dizziness. Personally, I would begin ONE at a time so I would know which drug is causing what.

Thank you all for your input!

He's starting the Flagyl over the weekend but started the mino earlier today and hasn't really felt any different. Maybe it takes some time to amp up?

The side effects of mino really hit me on the second or third day, I can't remember which. I took too much too soon. It has a long half-life, so it accumulates in your body. In the average person it reaches its maximum levels after day 3.

A few people aren't bothered too much by it though, so maybe he'll be one of hose lucky ones.
